I'm not knocking Frank on his boxing know-how and anyone can back the wrong fighter, but if his own family can't stand him something has gone wrong.

so, so far from you we have had the fact that frank has no personality and now you are saying that his own family dont like him. obviously you have some personal vendetta and you are obviously close to frank by some connection.....

so why not phone him rather than hiding behind your screen name !!

I had no problem with what Frank said and my girlfriend, a German speaker who would like to live there and has just finished an essay on German literature (or literature pertaining to the fall of the wall), agreed with him also.

Are we a such a bunch of PC fannies we cannot let the Germans get a little bit of stick based on general assumptions? There is a line granted but Frank did not cross it.

I guess we'll all have to boycott the legendary episode of 'Fawlty Towers' then.

As for Frank being a bit miserable and mealy about things. He always looks miserable as fook and generally talks in a downbeat way.

I thought Bunce was good overall. He should have riffed on Frank, perhaps with a dodgy German accent.

The pre-fight analysis was better than the fight.

I lived and worked (sort of) in Germany for a year nearly 30 years ago, Terry, and your comments are very accurate, particularly relating to a teaching or, indeed, any working environment. I taught English at a 'Gymnasium' (which is, actually, the German word for 'grammar school') in Lübeck and was amazed that colleagues, who had known each other for many years, would greet each other in the staff room every morning with a formal handshake and address each other as "Herr.... " or "Frau... ". Behind the formality and apparent respectability, however, were a good number of very sociable types who could be a lot of fun under the right circumstances. I could write at length about my experiences there, but will refrain from doing so. In short, I ended up having the time of my life that year and, if you and your girlfriend get the opportunity to live there for a while, I would highly recommend it.

Very true, Rhino. I found that having beer for breakfast was quite acceptable in Germany.

Yes German people love a good laugh - My mate was in Germany when he was in the army - He was in a bar with a mate and they were joined by two German guys who were about the same age - Every so often the German lads spoke to each other in German slagging my mate and his mate off - Then my mate handed the Germans his glass, and his mates glass also and said "same again then" - One of the German lads got the beers in and said to his mate, in German of course, cheeky bastards - They supped up and once again handed the Germans their glasses - One of the Germans asked what was going on and my mate told him in German - "You can slag us off all night if you pay for the beer or we could take you out on the cobbles and kick your heads in" - No problem said one of the german lads and got them more beer - My mate has always has had a bit of a way with him and he loves the Germans just like his father did fighting them back in WW2.

Some of my mates were in Germany in 2006 for the World Cup and they had a good couple of weeks. Apart from the England v Portugal game!
