The WBA title is the oldest of the current bunch of world titles. The WBC broke away from the WBA in the middle '60s and recognized Muhammed Ali as heavyweight champion after the WBA stripped him of the the title. Since then things have gone berserk.

There are probably more World Heavyweight Boxing Champions now then World Heavyweight Wrestling Champions.

If Anthony fought top 10 fighters like either Jeff Lacey (#5); Carl Foch (#7) or Sakio Bika (#8) he would get some credibility from the pundits.

All he is going to get is a few easy rounds from poor old Nadar, while Nadar is going to be knocked out.

Even a return bout with Mikkel Kessler (#3) would see just how far Anthony has progessed since their last battle.

If he wasn't ready for it he shouldn't have turned pro. You are basically saying that Mundines fights are glorified sparring sessions that he charges $50 for people to watch. You still didn't answer my question, do you think they are legit fights?

Also, stop acting like the WBA is the only belt in the division, I know that Kessler/Calzaghe held the WBA,WBO and WBC between them but Mundine could have challenged Steiglitz before Berrio got him or Berrio before Bute or he could have fought Beyer before Kessler got him or he could at least be fighting decent SMWs like Andrade, Lacy, eff even Manfredo Jr or Larsen would be a massive step up from his last few fights.
Is Mundine's WBA title less credible than Lucian Bute's IBF title? Who the hell did this guy fight apart from a few protected species hiding out in Germany? Sakio Bika? C'mon lets get real.

If Choc challenged Bute to a fight they'd want nothing to do with it because he has never faced anyone with Mundine's capabilities. Choc also challenged Calzaghe and Kessler and they said no despite good offers.

It's not like he is avoiding them, the best fighters in the division are avoiding him and that is a FACT. Fights against guys like Berrio, Bika and Stieglitz would be no less a sparring session than his last couple of fights. A Lacy fight would never be allowed by Lacy's people considering he he wouldn't get paid enough for a career ending fight (unless it was after Choc won another title).

It's very easy to discredit any fighter if you want to be unobjective but the simple fact is that even Joe Calzaghe has fought his fair share of bums and he has refused to step out of Europe. Even Choc had the balls to fight in Germany. Can anyone seriously say that after being a world champ for 10 years a fight against Manfredo Jr. was anything less than ridiculous?

Surely you guys understand it's not just about pointing out a guy and saying "I want you!" There's so much red tape and other bullshit that sometimes you have to fight the lower class fighters until the better opportunity arrives.

Theres alot of "Green" fanboys here so Mundine will always be a bum fighting bums, Yet Green has the worse fight record. (but try telling them that.
The Green lovers here are pritty wacked and act extremly homosexual when it comes to talking up there man.
No disrespect to the gay community but Green is not GOD.

I can understand to a degree that some are fans (or otherwise) of either Mundine or Green. But neither has what I'd consider a great record. And I don't mean just their win / loss records. Mundine lost to Kessler by a fair margin who in turn lost to Calzaghe by a fair margin. Green lost to Mundine and Beyer :-?

To suggest that Mundine fight bums because he is inexperienced is ridiculous. I pity more than anyone the bum bying Mundine pay per views thinking that it is going to be a contest.
Mundine has never ever beaten a champion.
He lost his first title to a 'journeyman' who subsequently lost the title in quick time.
His second reign is not legitament in my eyes until he fights someone.....anyone in the boxrec top ten. To hear the announcer at his last debacle read the ranking for the challenger made me puke. It was bought, fraudulent, misleading and dishonest. Pity the sucker that bought the fight.
Having said that, I like AM, I think he can really challenge the legitament title holders however I will never respect him until he stops disrespecting opponents and until he stops telling everone he is the best. At the moment he is a super middleweight with huge potential, He hasn't mixed it successfully with the elite of the division and until he does he deserves the title of contender only.

This is from Boxingtalk.com so they are not my words, but I could't help posting it. They rate him No. 4 SM, but have this to say

" 4. Anthony Mundine – 30-3 (23 KOs) – WBA “Regular” titlist
(Official Boxingtalk rating: #3)... Things seemed to be going in the right direction for “The Man” from Australia. Since losing a lopsided decision to Kessler in 2005, Mundine has been on a seven fight winning streak, including victories over current light heavyweight titlist Danny Green, and Sam Soliman. Mundine seemed to have a world of possibilities at his doorstep; a chance to be the top dog against Calzaghe, a shot at revenge against Kessler, or a chance to unify with the IBF strap against Bute. Then Mundine decided to clean his contact lens with his mouth, and put it back in his eye, thus rendering himself temporarily blind (this is not a joke). Mundine bounced back and defended his WBA “regular” title – which is the WBA’s unique way of destroying the credibility of boxing – against a bum who was 2-3-1 in his previous six bouts. Don’t worry though, next month Mundine will defend against the “Lionheart”, Nader Hamdan, who is 3-3 in his last six (no ties this time), including losses to three guys you’ve probably never heard of. Man, I love the WBA (this is a joke). Next Fight: February 27 vs. Nader Hamdan, for Mundine’s WBA “ridiculous” title. "

Covers it off nicely.

Actually, yeah it probably is worth less seeing as Calzaghe is the current WBA SMW champion.

Honestly tell me if you think that Acosta, Nievas, and whatever the fornicate the last guys name was are legit opponents? What about Hamden? Sure Calzaghe has taken some less then stellar fights but at least they have a faint whiff of credibility. Mundine draws enough dollars here that he could easily get some contenders out her for a fight.

How does that work? Wouldn't you expect the Super Champion's opponents to be a few levels higher? You can't have it both ways. Anyway I was referring to the IBF champ Lucian Bute not Calzaghe when asking if that title was more credible considering Mundine's opponents have been of better class overall.

Considering the setbacks I think he was entitled to have a couple of easy fights. Remember the problem wasn't that he could have lost his sight, the problem was he could have lost his eye.

The other thing is that he usually has about five fights every two years compared to some champs who are lucky to fight once a year. When Kostya had problems he went AWOL and his fights against an aged Chavez and JJ Leija were no more sparring sessions than Mundines.

The point is that even if you look at SRR's record you'll see your fair share of less credible opponents. The other point is (and I'm repeating myself here) that he offered Calzaghe and Kessler good offers that were turned down.

I'll say that again so it sinks in...MUNDINE WANTED TO FIGHT CALZAGHE AND KESSLER BUT THEY TURNED HIM DOWN.

So you know what he offered Calzaghe do you?

How much would someone have to offer him to leave the UK?

TML = thismodernlove, who is a poster on the forum. Most people on here would know him, mainly due to his irrational posts...

So there is no need for me to speak up mate, anyone who has been here for more than two minutes knows what I am talking about. I doubt anyone commented on thismodernlove at your primary school so I think I'm safe.

Got nothing to do with "thismodernlove" More to do with the fact that you make me the topic of conversation.

I couldn't care less what your opinion of any fighter past or present is but when you choose to make me the sole target then that's different, especially seeing as though it's not the first time.

One could get the impression that you're intimidated but it would be hypocritical for me to go there wouldn't it ?

Shell, so far you have claimed:
  • It is ok for Mundine to defend his 'Title' against scrubs because he is too inexperienced to do otherwise.
  • Calzaghe and Kessler, along with all other top contenders are actively avoiding the force that is Anthony Mundine (even though Kessler has already come to Australia and beat him soundly).
  • Bute has no more claim to being a legitimate Title holder than Munidne despite the fact that Bute is the full IBF Title holder and Mundine isn't even considered the best in his chosen organisation.
  • The likes of Berrio, Bika and Stieglitz would be no more of a test than Jose Alberto Clavero and Pablo Daniel Zamora Nievas.
  • Munidne would end Lacy's career.
  • It was ok for Mundine to fight Ruben Eduardo Acosta because of an eye infection he inflicted on himself a year after the fight took place.
So I think I have fair reason to be sceptical of your posts. You also seem to think that what you say is gospel even though the vast majority of people disagree with you. When I read your posts it reminds me of the irrational ramblings of thismodernlove, so I made the comparison. At one point you even stated your opinion and then ended the sentence with FACT, just like TML does.

One thing you do that TML doesn't do is turn to person attacks when you know you don't have any valid boxing points...

BUT this is a public forum so all opinions are welcome (so long as your posts adhere to the forum rules). Of course being a public forum these opinions can be debated and if people disagree with your opinion it is appropriate for them to say so and present points of their own. For the most part this is what I, and most other posters who have replied to your posts, have done...

It is a bit hard to dispute Calzaghe's achievements. He is the only man to have beaten Lacy and Kessler, after Kessler beat Beyer. he is probably the only champion in any weight division to justifiably call himself "undisputed".
