Hatton past his peak?
Has Ricky's peak come & gone? Is he now on the decline? I ask this because whenever I've talked about Hatton-Witter to others, Witter is picked to win by the majority of those people.
A few years ago, Ricky was the one who was getting more votes.
One never knows how a fighter will reat or how they will perform after their first loss. I guess we will find out come Ricky's next outing.
A lot of people I've spoke with, they think Ricky is now past it. Who agrees/disagrees with this view & why?

He looked OK against Thaxton, Magee and Maussa, some nice work here and there, feints etc, and jabbed his way in nicely against Tackie and Oliveira. But to be perfectly fair, the WBU and IBO and WBC Intercontinental days mostly were just old men former lightweights or blown up superfeathers being manhandled by this 155-pound bulldog with the powerful legs/body shots. Zoo's shots weren't coming off as quickly or sharply as per usual, and Ricky ate alot of shots still. Urango looked even slower in his previous fight (which he clearly clearly lost) to Hatton than he did in the Hatton fight, and I don't rate Urango....

I thought even before the Mayweather fight, win or lose, it would be the pinnacle of Hatton's career. Is he willing to go through FOUR MONTHS of hell like that again? Can his body even take it? I think his career had always been geared towards that, and he gave it his all, just met a superior boxer. I can't see him mustering such an effort again, especially after so many fights and with so many millions in the bank.

Yup.
Been 10st since he turned pro as a teenager, trained for 30, 12 round fights and fought 44 times as a pro after a lengthy amatuer career which fighting at the highest level. I think he is good for another fight against DLH and then he will hang them up.
A fight with Junior Witter at light welterweight is just fantasy in my opinion.

First off, Hatton's style is just not condusive to a long career.
Still, he's an excellent fighter and I still think he still has some gas in the tank to create further noise in the 10stone division. Losing to Mayweather is no disgrace and if anything surely Ricky can only learn from it, even at 28.
You wouldn't demote Bob Foster in the light-heavyweight standings because he lost to Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali would you?
Hatton stepped out of his weight/comfort zone and lost to the best fighter in the world.
We all went on about Hatton not fighting the best there is – now he has and lost he gets slated. Now that I find odd.

He's 30 in a few months, has been abusing his body vastly for the vast majority of the decade, has always had a young man's style if there ever was one, fights every six or seven months, hasn't looked at his best since 2004, hasn't looked near his best since the Tszyu fight, has had around 130 competitive fights, has had a lot of bruising and bloody 12-rounders, and has been knocked out and humiliated.
So yeah.
So yeah.

Of course he's past his bloody peak. Lad's a short walk-in pressure fighter who's nearing thirty & blocks shots with his forehead.
Anyway, off-topic a bit, but he's just fought the consensus best bloke in the world, fought his heart out & did not run away looking to survive, & certain individuals 'round this way have the neck to give him shit for it. Unfrickingbelievable.
Nota Bene: I'm not suggesting that running away looking to survive is not an honourable or valid tactic (it's one I have myself practised many times), just that the alpha-Cro-Magnon element are always quick to give someone grief over it, yet are curiously silent when it comes to Ricky's last stand, tottering forwards in a fight he knew he couldn't possibly win... Curiouser & curiouser...

I think he's just going to get battered against Oscar, so would rather not see that, it's just a bank account figth. If anything, Oscar is a more vindictive puncher than Floyd, after all, look what he did to Mayorga, who is a naturally big bloke.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Yup.

I think we all were guilty of getting a little too overexcited after the Tszyu win, which whilst very good, was against a guy at the end of a long, hard and injury prone career. I was among those getting excited too.
His post Tszyu form was patchy, which is partly to do I think with people becoming familiar with Hatton's style, and therefore him not being able to get away with as much, and also a slight drop in his movement and workrate, which was what really made him as a fighter. Without both of those, Hatton becomes a big strong lad, enough at a certain level, but not against the very best.

I agree, DLH is just the wrong style for Hatton to take, a stumpy agressive smaller man against a bigger, taller, power punching stylist like DLH is a KO waiting to happen.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I think he's just going to get battered against Oscar, so would rather not see that, it's just a bank account figth. Hatton is a proper fighter, I think being with FW has done him no favours as regards his legacy - it has made him a rich man but Ricky Hatton is a proud man and is a boxing fan also and I think how he will be percieved in a few years time is important to him.
I honestly don't think Hatton is frightened of Witter or is ducking him for that reason. He must be emotionally and physically drained after 10 years of a high profile career and he has fought the best fighter on the planet and gave it a good go - My old man likened it to when Johnny Caldwell fought Eder Jofre in Brazil for the undisputed world bantamweight title - I wasn't there (He was
I don't think there is anything wrong with getting caught up with the Ricky Hatton bandwagon - I'm as guilty as charged also (post FW mind) and Ricky Hatton has been fantastic for British boxing that there is no doubt.
