Do We Give Chambers A Chance Against Povetkin?
Do We Give Chambers A Chance Against Povetkin?
Come on people let's discuss this one tomorrow night. Do we give "Fast Eddie" a chance in the fight? He is one paced, fleshy and Povetkin is shit hot. Chambers has fast hands (when he let's them rip) and is accurate with the jab and left hook (closed Brock's right eye). But it's workrate that is the key, Povetkin will just outwork him i would say.
Predictions anyone?
Predictions anyone?

you have described just about every American heavyweight prospect I can remember from the last 5 years or so..steve689 wrote:He is one paced, fleshy
Chamber's lacks Povetkin's ability and boxing pedigree.
Povetkin to win a clear decision.
It's funny you say that, Steve, because Chambers is being slated for his weight in the "Current Scene" forum. Here's my post from that topic:
Just for interest's sake, their last 5 fight weights (from oldest to newest):
Alexander Povetkin - 221¼, 226, 223½, 225¼, 226¾
Eddie Chambers - 213, 214, 215, 214, 213

We will get to see the winner's future opponent on Sky in the coming weeks:
Sky have loosened their closely guarded purse strings and actually shelled out to show Klitschko v Igbraminov live.
Maybe they are finally getting the message that viewers will switch to Setanta if the intrenational coverage doesn't improve...

The inclusion of Buddy McGirt in his corner will definately help him.
When I was working in Philly last year, my cable repair man trained in the same gym as Eddie and he told me that Eddie has the potential, but is just too damn lazy to apply himself sometimes.
I think that's a pretty good summation of him. Against Byrd it seemed to me like he was walking it and then took his foot off the pedal and let Byrd back in.

Do we give Chambers a chance against Povetkin?
I really think this is an even fight on paper. The location of the fight gives Povetkin a slight edge, although I think lately it seems the visiting fighter is getting more of a fair shake. Povetkin has an impressive amateur pedigree and looks to be the goods, but Chambers has been underestimated most of his career. You have to remember he has not lost a fight, he will be in Povetkin's face all night. Chambers does not look particularly imposing, but he has fast hands, a good chin, above average defense, and good overall skills. How many current heavyweights can claim that? I like Chambers on points in a minor upset.
