OT: Heath Ledger Comments

Post by bridportboxer »

Bit of a pointless thread but have just seen this

http://www.tmz.com/2008/01/24/ultimate- ... imself-in/

I remember this wrestler from when I was a kid - he used to be cool as hell or so I thought.

Read some interviews with him recently, and he seemed to be a very deep philosophical type, it's usually those sort who end up topping themselves.

That and dirty filfhmeisters like Michael Hutchence of course.

Who, the Ultimate Warrior??

What a prick for writing that blog.

Terry, agree with you, the subject matter of BBM was overblown. Had it been a straight love story, it would have got nothing like the attention. It featured two great performances, but as a love story, it was nothing new.

We don't know that it was suicide. I think it's more likely an accidental death. I can't see him killing himself when he has a daughter.

Heath Ledger was a very talented actor. One of my favourites. I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain yet, though.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I dunno what the coverage has been over in Blighty, but in the U.S. here are the facts they've discovered:

When interviewed in November Heather admitted suffering from insomnia because he couldn't turn his brain off after and during filing of The Dark Knight, and, even when using sleeping pills, could only sleep for an hour a night.

He landed on Monday (I think) in New York and admitted to friends that he was exausted and went to a Pharmasist to buy over the counter sleeping pills.

The next day he was found in his apartment, naked, and surrounded by sleeping pills.

He was deperessed at the time of his breakup with Michelle Williams in September.

An expert stated on CNN that if a person is attempting suicide it's unlikely that they would be naked when they performed the act.

Theories are that he either took too many sleeping pills, or his body had a reaction to the sleeping pills.

The most plausible theory I heard is to the effect that prescription sleep aids [e.g. Ambien] and anti-anxiety meds [like Xanax] can lead to a dangerous depression of central nervous system functioning, especially respiration. Apparently if you pop a few pills of each - and a friend of Ledger's has said that Heath often took multiple Ambiens, i.e. in excess of the recommended dosage - you put yourself at serious risk of sleep asphyxia.

Ledger may not have been suicidal, but apparently the poor lad was a walking pharmacy. Hollywood [and Showbiz in general] is a f*cked-up scene.

Different medications affect different people in different ways - Buying stuff like that over the counter can be very dangerous, far better to see a doctor - My lad used to watch the Ultimate Warrior, originally Dingo Warrior.

You can buy much stronger stuff over the counter in the States, that in the UK you would need a prescription for. I know that much.
