Hmm not really impressed by Murray's bag work, though he can certainly shout. Obviously very hard guy (!), didnt look overly convincing in the MMA matches that are available on the net though.

Lee is a hard bastard for sure.

Hits hard, good chin, can kick and wrestle and most importantly for cobbles is an evil bastard when he needs to be and has absolutely no fear.

not too many guys around 80kg would fancy their chances.

one of Scotland's greatest, in & out of the ring. Scotland's longest champion, mixed with some of the finest fighters in Boxing History, coached 2 world champions & 2 British champions, as well as other fine fighters.

and "on the cobbles", one of the most feared & respected Glasgow Hardmen, an exceptional accolade in it's self, ran a Tossing School for years with his brothers (illegal gambling & fighting), Private Minder for Glasgow's finest Bookmakers and Gangsters, solicited by Glasgow Godfather Arthur Thompson as personal Bodyguard & Enforcer, a position he declined and a family name (Rea) that is still much feared & respected to this day, the only 'other' Hardman that I have ever known personally who compared is his son Young Tony, now in his 50s and somewhat out of the scene, but some fighter none-the-less.

a British Hardman in it's truest form from the days when Gangsters & Hardmen were British icons. WayoftheCass' old man has an interesting story about Big Tony Rea.

Running and Ruling with the Glasgow underworld figures was "No mean feat" in what used to be reffered to as No Mean City.

On the subject of his punching, a LOndon ABA champ I spoke to said he was the hardest hitter he'd seen......

its a great read alright Rhino but his autobiography is hugely biased and he doesnt mention many of his loses; that to me invalidates much of what he says as purely hardman rhetoric.

Johnny Waldron turned the trick on him twice I believe whilst Cliff Fields KO'ed him early once if my memory serves me.

He also got beat by Kevin Paddock, and Roy Shaw in their first fight.

Big Len didnt devote much time to these losses in his book; in fact I cant remember him mentioning any of them!

I have a video of an un-licensed fight with Bronson from the 80's when he was out of prison for a spell.

Very little boxing ability but a complete nutter, at one point he had to be dragged off the fallen man.

It would seem that Bartley Gorman was one of the most respected.

The bareknuckle champ now I hear is a man named Fury. I forgot his fist name. His son is the No 2 +91kg amateur in England but he's only about 19. He lost to David Price so he was going to try and win the Irish nationals to try and make it to the Olympics but couldn't prove he lived there long enough. He'll turn pro and will be good. What a great boxing name, Tyson Fury. He's about 6' 6" tall and weighs about 240 pounds.
I've met the father and he is a great big man. I was told he tried to call out Gorman after he stopped fighting because in the gypsy world, you are King of the Gypsy's if you are the bareknuckle champ. You can keep the title if you retire without losing it to somebody else. I don't know if the fight ever happened.

Gypsy John Fury and brothers including Peter Fury were first cousins and friends of Bartley Gorman i believe.

Yes that's him. He told me he had some pro fights but in his words...he didn't like it because there were too many rules. He said he watched one fight and the guy who won got his ear bit off and after the fight he just picked it up and went to the hospital to get it put back on. His shoulders are massive and knuckles are banged up good. You look at him and think this is not somebody you want to fight on the streets.

I saw him recently on Channel M secondsout programme (thanks to a poster here) - he was with his son Tyson...who is huge...
