After posting for opinion on 4 boxing related forums reference the sorry state of British heavyweight boxing all we have come up with are just five heavys who may or may not make it.This is the very short list in no particular order

1 Scott Belshaw 7 & 0 5ko

2 Sam Sexton 7 & 0 2ko

3 Ian Millarvie 7 & 0 5ko

4 Chris Burton 9 & 0 5ko

5 Derek Chisora 4 & 0 1ko

6 david Dolan 6 & 0 3ko

disappointed is not really the right word, somewhere there is a big lad maybe 18 or 20 years old about 220 lbs at this moment knocking 7 sorts out of the heavy bag, step up to the plate young man your fortune is in yours & Frank warrens hands

I dont rate sexton or chisora. belshaw looks the pick of that bunch IMO. Millarvie looks okay, but to be honest I didnt think too much of him either, not potential world class anyway.

None of them are world beaters or european for that matter. Derek Chisora has looked proper shit and so have the rest of them.

Praise the lord! I've found some who agrees that Chisora is pony. I've watched him twice now and fell asleep both times.

we will see, Im not convinced Hayes chin is as bad as is being made out.
Against thompson he took some meaty shots and was not poleaxed just his stamina went, he was still on his feet Ive seen fighters poleaxed by worse shots than that. Against Mormeck he admitted himself that was due to the legs going as getting down in weight. Im not saying he has a granite chin buit I dont think its as bad as is being made out.

It will be interesting to see how the Enzo Maccarinelli fight goes, and then what Haye achieves afterwards.

I think that beating Macranelli would answer a lot of questions about Haye's chin.

I'd love to see both Haye and Macc move up to heavy and have a crack at it. I think Macc in particular would do well..

David would as well IMO. He takes shots and looks vulnerable at times but he's quick, powerful and a terrific boxer. His attitude is fantastic.

He is ten times better than any on that list....sadly

yeh although if he manages to avaid a good puncher throughout it will equaly tell us about his quality and chances at HW. Everyone is suseptible to being hit at HW even Lewis who had a good chin got caught flush a couple of times and went down.

As someone else said, macca could well test hayes chin, but it could all be over so quickly if Macca has any problems at all with hsi own chin.

Quite interested in this. Chisora looked terrible against Butlin and made it worse by doing some gruesome showboating and headbutting the lad, for which he went unpunished.

Tell me more about Chris Burton, Teddy.

Dolan has zero future at heavyweight, in my opinion. He might be better off at cruiser and I think he might be able to make that.

I was asking Teddy to tell me about Burton so he could qualify his statement that he's "looked shit".

Chris is in good nick, physically and I know Tom Podmore was impressed with his dismantling of Butlin.

I was very, very impressed with him against Paul. Even though there are murmurs Burton has a bad chin, he took plenty of flush whacks from Paul in the second session of the fight at Wolverhampton Civic in December 2006.

He has very quick hands, nice skills, good stamina, an excellent trainer (Neil Fannan), is in good shape physically and boxes really well on the outside. Burton did a far superior job on Butlin than Chisora; a fight i thought Paul deserved a draw in.

By the way, Burton is due to meet Matthew Ellis over six-threes on the Olusegun-Wright undercard on February 8. I don't expect that fight to happen; Ellis will probably pull out a couple of days before the fight. He did that (24 hours before) against Butlin in October.

I'm tentatively planning to go all the way up to fecking Peterlee for this card - Ellis better not 'see his arse' again!
