New Zealand Boxing Hall?

Post by Cap »

Is there a New Zealand Boxing Hall of Fame online? I found the Sports Hall of Fame, but curious if they have a separate Hall for Boxing?

No BHOF for New Zealand, but a great idea maybe I'll get on to it

Maybe an ANZ boxing hall of fame would be an idea?

I think I know who you are talking about - if your talking about the man who boxed in the 70's and has Tongan/Portuguese heritage, he still lives in Auckland :)

Monty Betham Jr could follow in Mundine's footsteps and become an ex rugby league - boxing champion.

I know that's a huge call but like Choc his father was a very smart fighter and actually fought Tony towards the end of their careers.

Looking at Monty Betham Snr's record I noticed that he won the Commonwealth title which was considered 2nd only to a world title. My husband suggested that should there be a NZ Hall Of Fame then he would be one of the first inducted (taking into consideration all those of Samoan and Tongan origin that come under the NZ banner, eg:Tua).

The real one is Joey Santos' older brother. If it comes to that, how about Joey? 23 fights for 21 wins (17 by KO) losing only to Darryl Carrick (Joey's fifth fight, darryl's thirtieth) and his last fight, a Commonwealth Welterweight tilt with the very dangerous Joe Tetteh.

Sorry about all the lightweights, but a Kiwi hall without the unbeaten Dion Murphy would be incomplete. His record included a win over future World Featherweight Champ Johnny Famechon.

Of course, we could not possibly leave out the first man ever to win World titles in three different weight divisions, the great Bob Fitzsimmons. Never mond that he is in every BHOF in the Western World, he grew up in New Zealand, so he would have to go into the Kiwi hall. :TU:
