This was posted on an anti racist facebook group I'm admin on and I thought it may interest a couple of you guys.

If you know of any colleges, youth clubs or other organisations which would like Errol Christie to come and explain to the youth why guns and knives are a blind alley - then Errol would like to speak out on this subject.

His forthcoming book - No Place To Hide - explains how twenty years ago, black Britons had to fight white racists day in and day out. Now, Errol says, black kids are shooting each other over nothing important. "Twenty five teenage murders in 2007, most of them black, and over what - what bling you're wearing," he says.

I agree. Good to see another boxer trying to put something back in the community.

Wish footballers would do more of the same!

I wish I'd have been alive to see him box in the amatuers.

Nice to know Errol is doing this. He was a fabulous boxer and was a real hero to me and my mates when we were kids.

Errol's a great guy....but no way will any of the kids know who he is...

Yeh but if he can start by telling the kids who he is, I saw a guy speaking to a load of kids the other day who used to be an Olympic high jumper and when he started he showed himself a film clip of him high jumping, I'd never heard of him but the kids were massivly impressed.

That's a decent point.

However some people might argue against the cliche of poor kids using sport or music to 'get out of the ghetto'...these are both longshots really.

It would be more impactful to have a business man, or maybe even just an average guy who has a decent job but came from nothing....

They are more than just ways to make money. Sport and music are very good for expression, and if people don't express themselves it becomes bottled up emotions that are very hard to get rid of in a constructive way.

Top guy, met him when he was Eubanks sparring partner who said he was one of the best sparring partners in the world and he`d learnt alot from him.

Sports, music and other passtimes done in group settings, gives people both a sense of belonging and of achievement also, and as said earlier a means of self expression.

I have worked with kids and successful people and actualy the same eliments that you need to succeed in business are important in sport, thats determination self reliance setting goals and achiving them. Kids won't all be sportspeople or musicians but they will listen to those people and they can learn from what those people have needed for sucsess.
