Jimmy Lennon Snr

Post by stujones »

After watching the third installement of Rocky last night, I couldn't help but think what happend to ITTTS SHOOWWWTIMMMMEE's father Jimmy Lennon Snr. Of course, he is the MC for the first bout between "civilised" Balboa and Clubber Laing.

If some can tell me a little bit about him it would be great.

I really like how the son aopted his father's "really needing no introduction the world over". When Jimmy Jnr says that I get more of buzz than when Buffer says "lets get ready to rumble". Many because Buffer says that always, but Lennon says it when there is only a legend in the ring - I think only Tyson and Evander get this treatment.

Any info on Lennon Snr would be great.

Yes, he was a great MC. Another great one was the Las Vegas MC, I can't think of his name now, the one who announced Leon Spinks as "The new heavyweight champion of the world," and also announced the Sugar Ray Leonard-Hagler shocker. His voice sent tingles down your spine.

Bennie, you are thinking of the late, great, Chuck Hull, who I can do a half decent impersonation of.

I am not certain but i think that Jimmy Snr may have passed away a few years back? I remember reading something about Mike Tyson being a schizo and having different sides to his personality, going mad and biting ears one minute and then showing compassion when visiting Jimmy Lennon Snr on his deathbed, calling him sir throughout the visit.

Of course i could have imagined the whole scenario
