Silver gloves results
Does anybody has the results, Thanks.
I was faxed last night's results this morning but won't have time to put them on my website until tonight or tomorrow.
If you can let me know the name and region of the boxers you are interested in, I'll be happy to give you individual results. And all I have are winners but not how. Better than nothing, I guess.

Ok, Anthony Lapier, 125, 15, I think we're R10; and Matt Ludwig, 112, 15, again R10...or whatever region Montana is in. Oh, and how Wrylee Padilla did. I reffed his regional finals bout.boxmel wrote:I was faxed last night's results this morning but won't have time to put them on my website until tonight or tomorrow.

Anthony lost to to Julian Ramirez (my region) - you're Region 7 in Silver Gloves. Matt beat Marco Briceno from Region 4.Ok, Anthony Lapier, 125, 15, I think we're R10; and Matt Ludwig, 112, 15, again R10...
Padilla beat D'shon Mosely from Region 5 (having weights helps me find them. 8) )how Wrylee Padilla did.
You did WHAT!!!!!! I wasn't aware that you are a certified official.I reffed his regional finals bout.
I am indeed a certified Level 1 official. He actually boxed one of Babyhuey's kids in the Regional final. That's a bummer (and a shock to me) that Anthony got eliminated so early. But good for Matt, that kid is super tough and is finally getting a defense, he was really good looking at Regionals. He was like 0-8 before he won his first bout, great heart on him. And good for Wrylee, the Padillas are good people.boxmel wrote:Anthony lost to to Julian Ramirez (my region) - you're Region 7 in Silver Gloves. That's part of why I did it; I also just took the coaches clinic this past weekend as well; so now I'm also certified as a level 1 coach too; which I definitely want to keep up on. And this way, I can stay involved in amateur boxing long after my competing days are over. Several boxers in our state are officials, Amy is as well; and so is Caferro (good official, on that note). Nick Swan's mom was trying to convince him to do it, too.Dennis wrote:Congrats on being an official Kolya. We need more of our boxers to become officials and/or coaches to keep amateur boxing strong in our country. If Kolya sticks with it, he could be a ref for many decades to come. That is fantastic.
Please do me a BIG favor, any and all of you who are already or aspiring to officiating. Read your rule book. Learn all the rules. Know your commands and when to use them. Count punches only when you actually see them land (legal, effective, etc). In my experience, when there is poor officiating, there is poor boxing - epecially at the local level.
I'm a point Nazi; I try to be very strict about the punches I score. Reffing is an interesting thing, I had a really hard bout to referee this past weekend between two novices at 132 who were just really wild, I had to yell my throat out at them just to get them to stop (and yes, I was only yelling "STOP!"). Probably not enough though.boxmel wrote:Please do me a BIG favor, any and all of you who are already or aspiring to officiating. Read your rule book. Learn all the rules. Hubby says to learn to speak your commands from the diaphragm so you don't have to actually yell. You might want to practice that- seriously.Code: Select all

They are SO freaking hard to judge!8 year olds make me weep.
Yep - and the sooner you learn, the better off you (and your vocal cords) will be. And you won't frighten the little kids as much! Some guys have it down pat from years of experience, but us newer officials need to get into that habit of using the diaphragm to give the command.
8 year olds are the worst. Fun to referee though because they're too busy flinging away to really foul each other. Not like the seniors I had to ref, where the one hit the other after the bell. :x But yeah, I just sit there while the 8 year olds flail away, because technically nothing scoring is a clean, scoring blow. Usually they settle down a little though.boxmel wrote:They are SO freaking hard to judge!8 year olds make me weep.![]()

And definitely nothing "effective" - just flails!just sit there while the 8 year olds flail away, because technically nothing scoring is a clean, scoring blow. Usually they settle down a little though.
Welcome to my hell. I've been boxing since 2003, and it's only because of circumstance that I'm still under 10 bouts, and then I get in there with another novice who hasn't been doing it as long and I get either low blowed, rabbit punched, or slapped. Which is why my footwork is so important to me, so I can at least make an attempt at saving myself. I saw a kid in Western Washington State at an event get stopped pretty badly from a rabbit punch.boxmel wrote:And definitely nothing "effective" - just flails!just sit there while the 8 year olds flail away, because technically nothing scoring is a clean, scoring blow. Obviously you haven't been able to go to Ringside, or any of the other non-advancing tournaments - for the experience???? At least you haven't given up. And you do know, don't you. that you can enter into an advancing tournament with 5 or more scored bouts in your passbook?
and then I get in there with another novice who hasn't been doing it as long and I get either low blowed, rabbit punched, or slapped.
Heh heh. Slapping should be controlled by the ref, as well as low blows - and rabbit punchs. A strong ref will make sure the bout is fair.
Ummmm - what does foot work have to do with stopping the above fouls? Hope it doesn't mean you're just running!Which is why my footwork is so important to me, so I can at least make an attempt at saving myself.
I went to Ringside this past year; but before 2007 I hadn't boxed competetively since 2004. I knew I could enter the tournaments with 5 or more bouts, I'm going to at least enter our LBC Golden Gloves this year and see how I progress, and maybe PAL in October. I've had good refs by and large, just one out in Western Washington that wasn't too great; I got lowblowed like crazy in that one. And by footwork, I should more mean defensively-get out of the way of the wild slap before it lands!boxmel wrote:Welcome to my hell. You can also catch slaps on your arms and gloves, providing your gloves are up!And by footwork, I should more mean defensively-get out of the way of the wild slap before it lands!
Hope to see you at PAL. I will only be there for the finals, so you have to either (1) make it to the finals or (2) don't go home until Sunday.
Oh well. I don't suppose you know if I could find a list of the boxers from lovely Region 7, could you? Do you happen to know how Harvey Platero from Oregon did?boxmel wrote:Kolya - Wrylee won again this afternoon - beat Jeremiah Woodard from Columbus, OH. Matt Ludwig lost to Jeremy Longora from Region 6.

Wow. Thanks. That's a rough one, oh well. It surprises me Lapier went out so early, he looked great at Regionals. Timmy Mason is a tough little kid, must only have but 11 or 12 bouts, but he's a heck of a strong kid.boxmel wrote:Region 7:

2008 National Silver Gloves Bouts
I would love to say that I was able to get all the bouts each day, but I couldn't. I did get some and was able to get copies of others to upload from Day 1. I have Day 2 bouts and will be uploading those along with Championship Bouts that I am able to video or get from someone else who is recording. There was a lot of great action.
Visit http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... D703B7E175 for Day 1 Bouts and check back or subscribe to the page to get real-time updates when other bouts are added. Enjoy!
