Oakey by KO round 9. Did anyone see this, live or on TV? Thoughts?

Yeah, Tony looked good, pulled away as the fight went on. Haymer was very game, and in the 8th he went all out as he had barely anything left, which lead to the next round knock out. Probably would of been stopped at some point anyway.

Was a decent punch that finished it, but it was more te fact Haymer had nothing left, and couldn't possibly get up.

What's next for Oakey? Seems he should look to rematch Magee or even Barney as he's now been able to avenge the blemish to Haymer.

Oaky was lucky peter obho pulled out their fight at last minute as he would be retired if it had went ahead.

Yeah great result last night, looks as if Peter is adding a bit more of a punch now he's getting old. Maybe planting his feet a bit more.

Thomas Ulrich holds the Euro title, it would be a hard fight for Peter, and he'd probably have to go to Germany to win it. But on his current form its not an impossible task for him to do it.

I presume you mean Tony not Peter, Ian!

Ulrich meets Barashian next up who is a bit of an unknown quantity. The fact Barney gave the German all sorts of problems will give Oakey heart but he would certainly have to travel for the shot. Boxrec have this fight up as a 7th round win curiously enough. I didn't see it but BBN have it as 9th round.

Any reports on the undercard, saw that Courtney Fry had a good win over Salem, did they show that on SKY?

Yes. It was a decent fight, it was competitive in the first 2 rounds but then I thought Fry started to produce the cleaner classier work although Salem always kept trying and having little bits of success.

But he tired dramatically in the 5th and then in the 6th and Fry took him out with a nice left-right.

Fry said after that he 'hates boxing' but then went on to say 'he loves it but hates it' so it's fair to say he's a tad confused!

Tou used to be able to rely on Oakey for points win

Very entertaining fight, as Frank Maloney said "Tonys maturing like a fine wine", it was a relentless performance. Tony deserves a few BIG fights off the back of his recent performances hes a threat to any opponent on current form

Anyone think Oakey looked a bit fleshy around the midriff? I just wonder how much more effective he could be at Super-Middle?

Fry has made very slow progress - he's been a pro almost 5 years and achieved nothing! I think it's fair to say he's not in love with the sport.

tony always looks a bit fleshy round the middle, and could prob make super middle..but the likes of froch would eat him alive.

incidentally, im sure oakey won a title at heavyweight in the amateurs...how on earth can you do that at 5ft8....

and talking of heavyweights, was that billy bessey in the front row in a blue shirt ??

Tony won the 1996 ABA heavy title, by stoppage. Same year that Courtney Fry won at light heavy.
