JESUS, IM WATCHING EUBANKS GREATEST KAYOS/KAYDEEZ - CAMARA, MELFAH, DOS SANTOS, WATSON, JARVIS, CLOSE, COLLINS, BARRATUBENA - AND JESUS COULD THE BLOKE PACK A PUNCH WHEN HE SET HIMSELF RIGHT

HE CLAIMS HIS PUNCH WAS MEASURED AT 4 TONNES IN PRESSURE WHEN HE THREW IT AS HARD AS HE COULD FROM THE TOE UP, TECHNIQUE FOR POWER ETC, AND IM KIND OF BELIEVIN HIM

NIGEL WAS CERTAINLY A MORE NATURAL PUNCHER WITH BETTER ATHLETIC GIFT THAN EUBANK, BUT EUBANK HIT HARDER IMO AT HIS HARDEST !

Interesting stuff!!

I loved both Benn & Eubank, and like you say they could both bang.

I feel as you say Benn was the more natural puncher with either hand, but when Eubank caught you, you certainly knew about it!!!

Eubank had no power in his left hand,other than a very stiff jab due to his high hips,his left hook was never up to much even when it come off right,and his left uppercut stunned a few guys but didn't hurt them. His right hand was strong,and when he got it off right in overarm or underarm,from the foot as you say due to being about a stone heavier on the night than whoever he was in with,it could drop a guy down or shake him up.

But no,Benn's power was definitely better than Eubank's. He produced about a dozen of the most brutal ko's I've seen,just raw power without even being accurate or timed. And his left hook was nearly as devastating as his overhand right smash. At the super middle,Benn lost abit of speed because he was still a natural middle(just chasing Eubank),and was punching light heavies and cruisers coming down. Both had awesome punching technique at times,Benn's leverages more natural and consistent though. And Benn had far better balance on the front foot,Eubank could only throw one hard shot at a time,Benn could follow up with others.

I think Eubank may have had the slight advantage with his right, but he telegraphed that looping shot enough to give the opponent time to steady himself. Benn had far greater agility, so he could catch you cold from angles.

As we know, Chris was naturally the bigger bloke upstairs. P4P I'd say Benn. Nigel had the classic power-style like Dempsey and Tyson, using the crouch to coil into punches.

So, Benn was more devastating on account of his speed, while Eubank had physical impetus.

I think Benn often caught people very sweetly, fully extended swing right on the kisser, often from just the right distance.

I think Eubank might have been the naturally stronger man though.

Eubank is a huge admirer if you can you use that term, of Benn's power. To Eubank, Benns power seemed almost unnatural. Both big hitters, but Benn hit harder.

Well, basically, Benn could whack a guy with a super powerful shot almost whenever he wanted in a round, whereas Eubank only has a small handful in 50-odd fights. So I go along with what's already been said, Benn was more naturally talented and naturally powerful, and hit hard with everything. Chris was a nicer boxer, obviously, and none of his swing-type punches ever landed, it wasn't what he was about. BUT, his Watson KD and Jarvis KD/KO did look really powerful.

I don't remember this KO you're talking about, I see it's the fight before the second Collins fight. Eubank's cluster had kind of gone when he went to SKY, and it was all Benn, Naz and Bruno then. Is there any link to download it, because I can't remember it?

It's surprisingly hard to get hold of Eubank footage. DVDs only contain his big fight highlights, while YouTube doesn't turn up much.

World Boxing Video Archive maybe?

Edit: the latter has Wharton and Thompson.

In Eubanks autobiography he catagorically states that Benn was the puncher of the two but reasoned that playing field was leveled due to his superior chin and conditioning.

Interesting thread: it's hard to say when you are talking about Eubank, because he often did not give his all in fights, especially post Watson 2.

Benn was definitely the purer puncher, but I think Eubank was physically stronger than Benn.

I'm inclined to go along with that too. Eubank's iron handshake is legendary even amongst fellow fighters apparently it only finished once he decided to give you your hand back.

Joe Calzaghe in his book, described Eubank as possesing "exceptional" physical strength, which when you consider that his CV includes the likes of Bika, Lacy and Byron Mitchell is mighty praise indeed.

he knocked down carl thompson a few times, which david haye didn't! i think making 160 and 168 weakened eubank.
