I think it was a good fight, it wasn't massivly exciting and St Clair looked rubbish in the first 5 rounds but Khan wasn't doing a lot of the things he's done wrong in the past, however he never realy steped it up on this guy which is when he's at his most sloppy. 12 rounds against a taller pressure fighter would be a different story.

Still 12 rounds against a good opperater, don't be so mysreble DG

Believe it or not, Katsidis is not that good, did you see his fight with Amonsot? Put Katsidis in with a decent boxer or someone with a little punching power and he will be KTFO. Katsidis can beat pinheads but he'll be beat by a halfway decent fighter. Katsidis has no defense at all. If Amonsot had boxed Katsidis more it would have been a different fight.

Whatever you say about Katsidis he would put up a better show than St Clair just did. He wouldn't just come to do 12 rounds.

There are quite a few 'holes' in the rankings. A wily customer like FW can exploit progression. Luck runs out though.

(I've posted a lot of negative things about Khan. I'd like to point out that the majority of my criticism is towards those around him. He just looks like a waste waiting to happen in my eyes.)

Didn't see it all but:

1. StCliar fought a spoiler using all his tricks and didn't get in a position for each to exchange. This simply made Khan look bad but many fighters would look bad

2. Because StClair was so defensively savy and unwilling to exchange Khan couldn't get his shots off on . Katsidis would be easy for Khan to get shots off on and Diaz would too if we want to tdiscuss that

3. Khan did eat a few right hands. BUT StClair got in excellent positions to land them flush using excellent timing that many LWs do not have the ability to do.

4. StClair may be good enough to beat a few of our domestic LWs as it is he is certainly more skillfull than any of our LWs. He is a good fighter to have a shut out win against. Harris/Corrales had similar results and they are A Grade fighters with HUGE punches. Corrales was also well wobbled by StClair and StClair even if he is past his best won't have lost much in the way of punching power.

reckon Diaz would be a p4p star by now if he ws going to be one. Let's not forget Diaz was very quiet when Corrales, Castillo & Casamayor were having fights together. Instead he picked on the leftovers (Freitas). Diaz's route to world titles was as manufactured as anyone's; as manufactured as Khan's is going to be.

Khan put in a good, mature performance last night and will be better prepared for future pressuring opponents who aren't going to get knocked out easily. His hand and foot speed is good, his accuracy improving, and St Clair closed up shop because he didn't want to take these surprising punches.

Juan Diaz is good but he has to hit you 100 times a round to make any kind of impression on anyone, which is a bit weird really. Khan could well have the beating of Diaz one day.

I think Khan needs to get himself in a position where he can beat someone like Romanov or Katsidis by the end of the year, and take things sensibly from there.

Decent workout. As has been said many a time by now, St Clair is a wily 'ol chap, and did what he came to do. I don't think we should exclaim he's old or past it until we see the result of his next couple of fights.

Seems like Thaxton isn't on the agenda so far as next opponents go. Romanov or the Calzaghe undercard? I would be drawn to Romanov for the fact he will surely come to retain his title, not just stick it out for 12 and on occassion see if it's worth the bother of testing Khan's chin. Depends on what sort of opponent we'd be talking about though in the US though...

Glad to hear Warren mention Romanov again. Let's see it happen. He must believe a lot in Khan's ability or style against Romanov's, given Romanov's brutal stoppage of Bobby Vanzie on a FW show.

I think Thaxton should just drop it about Khan, who will surely just vacate the Commonwealth title and give up his British mandatory to fight for the European. Thaxton now needs to answer the challenge of his top contender, John Murray.

Edward, you Gay!

About time you realised that I am right!

Khan is similiar to Audley ( keep your head up, mate).

I think Khan looks to have it all - but he is fragile.

Christ.

Talk about pessimism.

Khan is still a learning pro, and just turned in a shutout performance against a guy who has mixed in top class, and who definetly came to fight.

Amir's use of the ring was superlative, he never let his man close the range, and his jab was a thing of beauty. Lovely variety in his shots as well, bringing shots down to the body and lead left hooks. Great stuff.3

Sure, he was in against a smaller guy, but he pitched a shutout and showed some very nice boxing skills and great composure in there. What more can you ask for.

I think his jab was awsome also, he did all his fundimentals well didn't jump in and smother his own work didn't drop his left as much as he did, didn't through any wild shots. I think the 12 rounds are good to have and St Clair did enough to have won at least one (I had him winning one and drawring one).

Good fight people should stopp ragging on the poor kid. I think there is an anti Khan agenda, a bit like those kids who go off a band cos they become popular.

I just say it as I see it!

Khan is not the 2nd coming, he did well - but I saw nothing to suggest he stands up to and beats a GOOD SOLID FIGHTER with a punch.

I said aboth that the fight would have been very different had Khan been fighting a pressure fighter who was taller or a fighter with a punch. However he can't prove every aspect of his skill in one fight and in this fight he showed a marked improvement from previouse sloppy performances a strong jab and the ability to brake down a hard wyley fighter.

Such as who?

Let me ask you this, do you think Thaxton would beat him?

A few fights back, I did, but now I think Khan would have too much for Thaxton. Jono would defintely have a punchers chance, but he would take an awful lot of shots. Khan is way too fast for him. Possibility of a late stoppage win for Jono, but more than likely he loses a lop sided decision or gets stopped and busted up himself.

Tell me who outside of let's say the top 5 in the division, that you would back to beat Khan?

But, he didn't break down St Clair.

Khan is moving too fast in his head, he needs to slows down, he is not ready to win a world title and fight the mandatories ( Unless the WBO that Warren can manipualte!).

As you say - Khan is still LEARNING!

Thought this was genius matchmaking though, Warren deserves credit. Absolutely ideal opponent for Khan at this stage of his career.

Not really going to threaten a victory but shows Amir enough moves in the ring for it to be a useful learning exercise.

It's classic really, he did the same with Hatton but still St Clair was a well picked out opponent.

Put him in with Nate Cambell

Boxing Monthly have him at number 10.

Khan has not fought ANYONE that had more than a 20% chance of beating him.

BUT I WILL SAY HE DID EARL VERY WELL!

Khan beats Thaxton,imo.

why is thaxton touted as such a danger man?

to me he's just a plodder who has decent power but he's no one punch KO artist, his stoppage victories are a result of wearing fighters down.

IMO khan would handily outbox thaxton to win on points or possibly stop him late.

however khan is some way short of world level yet, i'd like to see him get more experience over the next year before challenging for a world title.

He is - but AFTER Diaz beats him, put Khan in with him, that will show if he is ready, imo.

TBH thats bad match making. If you want to put Khan in with a dangerous puncher let it be 1 where Khan has something to gain such as Katsidis or Romanov where he can grab a World/Euro title for the risk.

If they do fight Romanov then they are fighting a man better than Campbell and a league above Thaxton.

TBH if I was Warren I would keep Khan away from Cambell/Romanov/Katsidis and try and make the fight with Thaxton because its a fight Amir would win with a degree of comfort. Thaxtons promoters seem to think Thaxton is worth 50% though so that wont happen

Exatly why KHAN IS RUNNING too fast!

Imagine if he wins the World Title this year!

A World Champion ( a Real World Champion) fights all comers - big punchers included.

Thaxton is te best foight for him - he will win and may get hit once of twice!
