Some good points made but I am not sure you are right about Rickys legacy being secure - Losing to Mayweather isnt a problem but avoiding Witter is.
im not convinced the general public will care but certainly those of us in the know will... but Hatton already has the high profile victories to fall back on, he's already made his mark in the sport.... journalists, boxing writers, internet fans will always look for ways to discredit a fighter's achievements whether its through quality of opposition (old, shot, sh!t, lost to... etc.), not fighting/ducking so and so.... but longer term does it really hold that much weight?? in the end, most people are judged on what they did do, not what they didn't.... in the archives, Ricky will always be referred to as a 2-weight world champion, a fighter who stopped both KT & JLC, headlined Vegas etc..... the rest of it is just "if's, but's and maybes".

I notice Witter hasn't fought any of those names, and they're all a weight higher (at least) than Ricky?

If any of those names came calling WITTER would fight them!

He already said he wants Cotto!

He also said he would step up to the higher weight!

Ricky was fine fighting PBF at Welter and DLH!

WHY?

Because despite the fact he would ( and did by PBF) get MASH down - he would make £££s!

Greedy git!

How many of those names has Mayweather fought?? because, especially at the heigher weights, people can tear Floyd's resume apart too (shot Gatti, sh!t Baldomir, old DLH etc... )... and now apparently add Hatton to that list of worthless opposition coz he's sh!t too yeah???? You can play this game with almost any fighter out there...

Ok, lets spin things your way quickly, keeping it at 140+ where Hatton and Floyd are more comparable....

Floyd -
Gatti........ shot
Baldomir....... sh!t but beat Gatti, preventing a Hatton show down that you mock, so...... who fights him instead???? Mayweather!!
Corley......... lost to Judah who lost to KT...
ODH......... old
Mitchell..... shot (2 x loss to KT who lost to Hatton)
Hatton...... apparently sh!t

Hatton -
KT - destroyed unbeaten Judah and Mitchell (first time round) both fighters records equated to 11-0 in world title fights up to that point.... still the man to beat, without the benefit of hindsight... Don't forget also that Mitchell fought Mayweather after the second KT loss...
Castillo - arguably gave Mayweather his toughest fight... etc
Maussa - beat Harris who then went on to fight Witter (was he shot by then??)

At the end of the day we can spin things however.... But by your logic, Mayweather is still unproven at 140+ too.....

That's a poor comeback. I'm with Chief....

Witter is not as good a fighter as Hatton. His career has not been as good and while I'd love to see them get it on, it's Witter who needs Hatton, not the other way around.

We'll be arguing about this until Xmas, but the reality is that Witter is fighting Demtrius Hopkins. Hatton has just been in with Floyd Mayweather.

He lost, but he was in with Mayweather, a much more frightening proposition than Witter.

Frightening?

HATTON HIMSELF SAIS MAYWEATHER IS NOT FRIGHTENING AT ALL.

'He may lead me a merry dance for 12 rounds'

Witter on the other hand would KNOCK him out!

Mayweather was not a puncher since his Superfeather days!

OR SO HATTON THOUGHT!

If the fight did ever happen, not even spiritual forces could stop Hatton from being Ko'ed by Britains second best fighter(first Is Calzaghe).

Hatton's a nice guy out of the ring but that doesn't excuse his career, I don't hate him as a person but his career Is a joke.

Are most people getting fed up with him?

Witter would never have been popular, whether he was hyped up or not.
Max Molyneux wrote:Yeah fighters make certain excuses, It's hard to be 100% for fights but he's using that Welterweight excuse too excessively, It was Floyd's skill that beat him, not the size.
It was both.
Max Molyneux wrote:Real fans don't buy the bs he comes out with and are honest.
You were never a Hatton fan.
Max Molyneux wrote:Nah, DLH's been a Lightmiddle since 2001 at least, he'd be huge next to Hatton. DLH could nearly be 12st In the ring at Light Middle while Hatton's 11st 4lbs at most.

DLH Is too big for him.
DLH might struggle at Welterweight though and Hatton is no bum.
I am talking about Hatton being a hypocrite because he slagged Floyd off to fight him but thinks It's a crime when Witter does it. Hatton shouldn't of ducked him.

I don't care whos fed up with him but there are fans In here that clearly are.

Witter would of been popular to real fans who appreciate skill.

Floyd does not have a size advantage over Ricky.

I was a Hatton fan, I just wasn't horribly biased like alot were over him.

DLH will never agree to a fight at Welter, Hatton said on Sky maybe around 10st 10lbs. DLH can trade with Middleweights while Ricky struggles to trade with guys only 7lbs more. Of course he's no bum, I don't say that about any fighter.

i met both witter and hatton a few years back and i have to say witter came across as an arrogant dickhead while ricky was a gentleman he even bought me a pint.
however since them meetings hatton has beaten tszyu, castillo etc. but he has become EXTREMELY arrogant, talks about himself in the third person ALL THE TIME and he disrespects other fighters.
on the other hand witter is a more down to earth fella these days and is slowly getting the respect he deserves.

BTW i'd love to know what those guys who thought hatton won rounds against mayweather were smoking

:TU:
:D Cant believe I'm entertaining this but cant help it......

Yes, Hatton lost to Mayweather, and convincingly… I don’t think I gave Ricky a round on my card… But, if he’s a shit as you say he is, what does it prove to you anyway???

However you wanna look at it, Ricky Hatton has reached has reached the top of his sport by taking his chances… eg, stopped KT ($$$$$), stopped JLC ($$$$), stopped Maussa, won titles in 2 divisions….

Witter’s had chances too:
- Late replacement vs Judah but failed to impress US audience (no $$$$$)
- On Hatton undercard in late 2003 but pulled out of the fight against Kelson Pinto…
- On US tele vs Corley and produces a lackluster performance (no $$$$$)
Even the Morua fight was sold as a “look what I can do” fight and he didn’t deliver.

And now Witter’s stopped Harris in 7 and we’re supposed to say that earns him a fight with Ricky?? Let’s not forget that Maussa stopped Harris in 7 too.. Why didn’t Junior stop him sooner, or (by your logic) is Maussa the same level as Witter?? This was the same Harris that, following the Maussa loss had such notable wins (coming into the Witter fight) against two smaller fighters (Johnston & Lazcano)…. Shall we start picking holes in them too?? (more issues about resumes!!)

Infact, lets look at some of Witter’s opposition like you seem to judge fighters…

Kotelnik… 0:1:1 with M’Baye, who lost to Rees
Corley… Stopped in 5 by Cotto
N’Dou… Lost to Mitchell, who lost to KT….
Harris…. Lost to Maussa, fought smaller opposition

Then down a tier to the likes of Lynes, Lauri…. Lucky Sambo!

Look, see it how you want mate… As a fan of boxing I’d love Hatton and Witter to fight.. But if it doesn’t happen, history already has Ricky’s place with his achievements secure - discredit and name call what you like, but you can do that with any fighter….

:D
And, for this one.... :D

If you rate fighting for belts so highly (e.g Baldmoir vs Mayweather) then why slag Ricky for the Maussa and Urango fights??

Also, Ricky made his debut at Welter in a championship match against Collazo... No "warm up" vs shot Mitchell like Mayweather did...

Dont forget, Baldomir priced himself out of a Hatton match up and fought Mayweather instead....

Look, Mayweather is a waaaay better fighter than Ricky, we know that... As for Hatton/Witter, we'll have to wait and see.... But to just go around spouting some cheerleader style crap all the time is easy to do with any fighter (in history!), but good luck to ya.... Take it easy. :TU:
