Man, Dusty Harrison got tall! I remember him as a little kid back when he must have been 9 or so. Is he out of Old School? That's how I seem to remember it, anyway. Good to see some of the kids from back in the PVA doing well.SugarRayLeonardGym wrote:I would love to say that I was able to get all the bouts each day, but I couldn't. I did get some and was able to get copies of others to upload from Day 1. I have Day 2 bouts and will be uploading those along with Championship Bouts that I am able to video or get from someone else who is recording. There was a lot of great action.
Visit http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... D703B7E175 for Day 1 Bouts and check back or subscribe to the page to get real-time updates when other bouts are added. Enjoy!

He's out of Old School. That's his dad's gym. They have two boxers in the Championship - Robert "KC" Clark and Chris "Rock" Warden.SugarRayLeonardGym wrote:

I thought Dusty's dad was his coach. Is he a kind of bigger white guy, hair kind of slicked back (that's how I seem to remember him)? I think he was there at my first bout and had wanted to talk to me but didn't get the chance and ended up talking to my dad instead, but I was at the Boys and Girls Club at the time.SugarRayLeonardGym wrote:Kolya wrote:He's out of Old School. Yup, that's him. His dad and the owner of Old School. His name is Buddy.Kolya wrote:

Thought so. Seemed like a nice guy. I guess you're from SRL's in Palmer Park? Good to see someone else from that area on here, even if I don't live there anymore. Is Josh Davis from Laurel still boxing? I haven't seen him listed at any of the national events this year.SugarRayLeonardGym wrote:Yup, that's him. His dad and the owner of Old School. Silver Gloves Finals are starting in about 1 hr, so I'll try to keep track of the bouts and get a final results list up on this site. There are going to be some good bouts tonight, so I can't wait. We have two boxers in the finals tonight. I'll keep you posted.

Have you seen Thomas Williams or Marlon Bolen from Mooney's Boxing Academy box at all lately? They're two of my old gym buddies.

Jr Zurita ...well we need to work on keeping our hands up,
the kid from Baltomore was tall and we got hit with alot of stupid shot we shouldent have,
if we had our hands in position, but we are gonna take the lesson
and learn from it, ....and fix it staring monday..
Efraim....i dont even now where to start, no disrespect to the judges but the whole scoring system is broken to me....
we fought a very tuff kid friday who would hold and slap...but the judges dident count the slaps....and we landed solid straight punches,
and won the fight friday,
, now saturady....same thing but i guess holding and slapping
is ok on saturdays, but not ok on fridays,....???
honestly our fight on saturday...i was more confident we won that fight then the two fight before that....
i have no answer.....
i loved to show, john brown and ringside are great, the show was organized...and a great expierence but the scoring system in usa boxing is broken,
i dont have or suggest t have a better way...but the one we have now is flawed....way too much inconsistency between what refs allow,
and what judges count as a point punch... its one thing to this judge,
and its another thing to a different judge...
i dont even know what to say about it,
Efraim made it all the way to the championship fight....
we are proud of that...so...i guess till next year we will focus on that as a victory.... but i still fell bad for efraim because he did everything
i told him to do in the corner... because 1- i said so
and 2- it was working....we were landing solid straight punches from the distance, and the only time we got hit is when the other boxer would hold and slap.......i dont get it.
In what way?Efraim....i dont even now where to start, no disrespect to the judges but the whole scoring system is broken to me....
Not supposed to.but the judges dident count the slaps....
Are you saying the refereeing was inconsistent?same thing but i guess holding and slapping is ok on saturdays, but not ok on fridays,....???
Sounds more like the officials are flawed, not the system. The system/criteria is very straight forward. How it's interpreted seems to be an individual choice - and that's really too bad. I have no idea how to fix that except to make sure that each and every official is properly trained at the local level. Just my thoughts.but the scoring system in usa boxing is broken,

you right, about "how its interpreted"... if slaps and holding count, ...
and i know they dont but.... if they did, we should have lost friday,
but if they dont.... then we should have won on saturday...
im not crying eather, just posting the ovious about what i see to be the biggest problem in amateur boxing from the view point of myself...
its easy for me to point to the problem, but coming up with a better way is above me,
but i do know how often i see inconsistencys and its WAY too often...
i mean if we can launch a satelite to mars,
i would think we could figure a consistant way to score blows....
is it instant replay..??... or some technology with the gloves....
i dont know..??? ...but,
the error of human interpretation isnt working eather ..my 2 cents

I agree with BoxMel - amateur boxing scoring system broken
BoxMel, I completely agree. I injected myself into a conversation between a coach who was unfamililar with scoring and an official at this weekend's Silver Gloves tournament. The coach asked about how a rally of punches between two boxers should be scored. The official told him that "I have clickers and I just try to keep track of how many punches each boxers throws"
The rulebook clearly states (107.7) that "The value of blows scored in a rally of infighting shall be assessed at the end of such rally and shall be credited to the boxer who has had the better of the exchanges according to the degree of said boxer’s superiority.
My interpretation of this is that at the end of the rally, points are assessed to the boxer who was more effective in the exchange. It's impossible to count each blow in a rally of punches.
I told the coach that he should download and read the rulebook. BoxMel, do you think that it's feasible to use the same scoring system as the JOs where multiple judges need to score a point within a certain period of time? I know the equipment may be cost prohibitive, but I think that would help eliminate some of the inconsistency.

Huey - please remember that a video tape only shows one point of view. Unless you see all 5 points of view, it won't give you an accurate assessment. For all you know, the judge who had the same point of view as the camera may also have had your boxer winning.ill try and find if my guy taped the fights,

Need to get away from "shoe shining." It's very hard to judge. My interpretation of this is that at the end of the rally, points are assessed to the boxer who was more effective in the exchange. It's impossible to count each blow in a rally of punches.
Heh heh. A coach read the rule book?I told the coach that he should download and read the rulebook.

The JO Nationals use the computerized scoring system. Golden Gloves and Silver Gloves do not. They use the tally counters where the scores end up being a total of each judge's raw score, i.e., number of punches landed. I think it would probably be more fair to the boxers to use the computer system, plus you can see if any judges need "adjusting" in how they perceive "legal effective punches, etc." However, group members can choose between using "clickers" and computer and by not using the computer scoring, I think they do the boxers a great disservice. Just my opinion. The cost incurred would be to pay for the shipping of the computer systems needed, plus travel, lodging, and food for the techs.
