Big Brawl among team USA in bar in colorado?

Post by dancemaster »

Whats the deal on the team in a club fighting some guys. Ihere that Demetrius was arrested,Raynell hurt his hand,Raushee was injured, shawn Estradaalso involved?Whenever you have 12 guys away from home from all parts of various major cities and put them in small hick town like colorado springs for a year you are looking for trouble.I here Charles Hately,Danny Garcia,Quantas Graves were all caught with girls in theyre rooms and sent home from camp. And finally everybody is over weight with team captain Luis Yanez arriving to camp drunk. Was it too early to assemble these guys together?

It wasn't too early. 11 grown men that are growing together as a team. Nothing is ever perfect, and there will always be individuals complaining about something. If there was a so called brawl, I'm sure there will be consequences (fines) of some sort. Let's not complain about how Dan is running the program. That's like someone complaining about how messed up another person's family is, when none of our families are perfect :-)

Thanks for your comment, DeRae, but that doesn't answer dancemaster's questions about the truth of what supposedly happened.

if this is in fact true, it just goes to show you that campbell is not gaining these mens trust or respect. this was a mistake to take these men out of their regiments established by their original coaches. a man cannot ask others to follow if he shows no respect or animosity towards the fighters. i have not heard of these guys getting into as much trouble before this experimental training residency was implemented. this is my opinion but i think campbell is in over his head. this is more of a power trip than for the welfare of the fighters that will represent the US in beijing.

First of all, This is the first I have heard of this latest incedent with the bar situation. The fact is that USA Boxing has caught a lot of flack about not winning medals in recent past Olympics. We want more support for our sport, well winning more medals will help. Dan Campbell may be experimenting, but he is doing it to satisfy all the people that were unhappy about the USA coming home with our pockets almost empty. When trying something new mistakes can be made, but bear in mind that these are not JO's and Dan is not a baby sitting service. These are all men, most over 21 and are suppose to be responsible enough after 10-14 years of training in the sport to understand the consequences of bad decisions. Their bodies are their life. their hands are their tools, and their future is at risk for even small indiscretions. Still until you know the whole story of what happened I think we should wait to judge. Michael Phelps the Olympic swimmer swimmer got caught in our town with a DUI and no one including him blamed his coach. He accepted it as a stupid mistake on his part and was ordered community service here.

That's true. It's not Dan Campbell's fault. He had passed out at the bar at least an hour before the fight started.

I totally agree. When I see parents abusing their children, I always look the other way. No one is perfect and those bruises will heal.

If this was true, it seems like there would be a link to an article. I can't believe some media outlet wouldn't pick up on this story if it was true. I sure hope it isn't true.

Colorado Springs police responded to a “large disturbance” at a downtown nightclub early Saturday.

At 1:45 a.m., police were called to Rum Bay, in the 100 block of North Tejon Street, where bouncers were being assaulted, police said.

Police said there were several fights in the area, and it took 22 officers to control the disturbance.

Four people were arrested on suspicion of assault or failure to disperse, and two people were taken to hospitals for minor injuries, police said.

It was the third nightclub-related disturbance downtown in three weeks. Last weekend, a woman was hurt when a man jumped over a railing and landed on her.

The weekend before, police were called to the Vue — across the street — and found 30 to 40 people fighting inside and up to 300 “uncooperative” people gathered outside, police said.

One woman was taken to a hospital for cuts to her head and face caused by thrown glass, and several customers and officers had minor injuries.

For some reason it's hard to imagine all 112 pounds of Rau'shee attacking a bouncer. Hell, it's hard to imagine Shawn Estrada or Andrade doing it either; bouncers tend to be rather...huge. Where were Hunter, Downs, and Wilder during this? Those guys are the firepower!

In all seriousness, I do hope that these rumors are false or our boys were in some way provoked and just defending themselves. I really want to see this team do well in Beijing and shut the haters up.

Maybe I'm missing something, but where in this article does it say anything about boxers being a part of this fight.

I spoke to Shwan on Saturday night at 9:00 ish and he was in his room. I think this is one of those rumors that snow ball. Dennis and BoxMel, I am sure you have been to Colorado Springs, they run a pretty tight ship there.

I made a few calls and this is what I have found out:
Something did happen. However, this was about 3 to 4 weeks ago. 2 USA team members, which I will not name, were arrested. Shawn was there, however, he was not involved in the scuffle. He was with the team members when this broke out.

Hopefully the arrests don't turn into convictions with incarceration as part of the sentence.

ELA - yes, I've been to Colorado Springs - and it isn't as tight as you might think. Many a boxer has gone (literally) over the fence.
