Loi,Arcari.Carrasco Were They As Good As their Records?

Post by dagosd2000 »

Sorry to see the passing of Dulio Loi. When I was in Spain a few years ago there was a poll stating that Pedro Carrasco was their greatest athlete(I guess bullfighters don't count) Another European fighter of that era,Bruno Arcari. These three fighters had a combined record of 291 wins and only 8 losses. Were they that good or were they protected fighting almost exclusively in Italy and Spain?

It would have been possible for a not ready for prime time Locche and a past prime Loi to have met each other in the ring. It never happened but it would have been quite an event...hindsight being 20/20.

There have been a few people here that have seen Loi fight but not many. I hope we can get some testaments to his career here at some point.

I saw Carrasco fight Mando Ramos on a replay. Ramos ,I thought, handled him pretty well. I never saw Loi or Arcari, but I think Loi fought in California and beat Ortiz. From the lack of responses on this I don't think many people are familiar with these guys. Including myself

I've got a few Arcari fights.

He was a good solid fighter...a legit champ.

Wouldn't have defeated Cervantes though.

I've never seen Duilio Loi on film, but what I have read about him a few places, and I'd definitely like to get confirmation from someone more knowldedgeable, is that in his 3 losses in 126 fights, two of them, the 1st bout with Carlos Ortiz, and the 2nd with Eddie Perkins, along with the draw with Eddie Perkins were controversial.
