KHAN VS LIGHT WELTERS

Post by Autobarn »

Ok, I'll get this out of the way. I reckon Khan will win the WBO lightweight title in the next 12 months. Provided he does, there is a chance that he would move up to light welter. Given that he's meant to have a few problems getting down to 135-lbs, and that he would not be ready for Juan Diaz the WBA, IBF and (at risk of being stripped) WBO champ. Katsidis or Casa may get the WBO belt and I think one of those will be brought over in the next year, especially if they are looking vulnerable.

Anyway, if Khan does move up to light welter, who could he beat? Who would be good fights for him? 140 seems a good division. I suppose for the WBA title there's Rees/Kotelnik. Then you have Olusegun for the Commonwealth, and Lynes for the European. Eventually, perhaps Witter for the WBC etc...I'm sure when Hatton is past it and Khan peaking, that Hatton-Khan would be a tempting fight to make.

Obviously, Khan is very much a work in progress right now. Bearing in mind what he has now ability-wise, and what he will possess as a fighter. Looks like there's a lot out there for him in Britain/Europe at 140, so how would he fare vs the above fighters? Just speculating...

I don't think a Khan - Hatton mega fight is a million miles away. I am sure the public will start wanting to see it very soon, especially if Warren makes the right noises in his column.
This time next year there will much more money in a Khan - Hatton fight, than there ever will be in a Hatton - Witter fight.
Doesn't allegedly have a 1 fight promotional deal with the Hattons due to the court case a while back?

I think they've yet to agree about it. Yes, it would be a great way for all involved to make lots of money and to settle their score, when the time is right.

It sure would, though Khan isn't any where near ready for the fight, Feb 09 might be a different story if he stays busy.

I'd love to see Khan vs Lynes. Because Lynes did well vs Witter and has improved. Would be really interesting to see Khan vs a thoroughly competent fighter with classical, tidy skills.

Also, I'd be interested in Khan-Olusegun. Both are Commonwealth champs of their respective divisions. Look at the speed that both of them have...Would be fascinating.

Doubt Hatton would put his reputation on the line against Khan.

Khan is two years away from a world title shot I think and Hatton will I think be retired by then, or on the downturn.

I think Hatton will fight Malignaggi or Torres, mayweather, then possibly DLH, and then possibly witter if we're lucky and retire.

AK will certainly campaign at Lwelter in the next 12-18 months in my view.
i also think he is now closer to being as good as he is going to get than most on here. i have to add that i believe he is a very handy fighter with excellent jabs and uppercuts in his arsenal. he moves around the ring well.
can fight going forward (very naturally) and on the back foot (effectively).
we all know he is open to a right hand and doesnt like in-fighting prefering to keep it at length but his skills are numerous and will help him to topple more than a few decent lightwelters. most know that i'm a lynes fan but amir has more in his weaponry than colin although he wouldnt beat him yet. he'd beat rees tomorrow, though.

Well if he does move up to light welter, at least he will fight some lightweights at last.

i don't see it happening..

It could be Possible, but that is if Khan Becomes Champ, preferablly undefeated, and Hatton does not get Mangled by his opponents, if he does face mayweather or DLH that is

I've got a sneaky feeling Ricky will be coming to the end of the road by then, & I can't see him taking on Khan when Ricky's past it. Too smart for that, I think Ricky would be.

Ricky will retire in 2009.

If Khan fights and wins a proper version of the Lightweight title... far from impossible, Juan Diaz aside. Then there will be calls for Hatton vs Khan.

It could be a realistic and tough fight to call a year from now... If Khan wins a lightweight title.

What a fight that would be.

He would smash Gavin Rees now.

By the time Khan is remotely ready, Hatton would be finished.

I really don't see how anyone can say he would do this or that to Hatton or Witter. He has shown various skills and talents, but not against anyone with any kind of advantage over him.

Will his hand speed keep him out of trouble against a pressure fighter like Hatton?

Will his workrate keep him out of trouble against a 1 punch KO artist like Witter?

hatton has slid dramatically over the last 2 years, i honestly think that khan has superior skills right now !! he would give ricky nightmares !! and hatton no longer has the body punching capacity nor the engine to chase khan and get inside his reach.

witter is a different kettle of fish, khan would be shit scared of that right hand !!

the thing is, Khan is so highly touted that it's ok to get head of ourselves. Warren will get him the right opponent at the right time to make him look good. Meanwhile a guy like Hatton appears to have taken his first loss very badly and has shown signs of gradual decline since winning the title from Tszyu.

  He's right Rhino. You're normally on the money fella, but this is crazy talk. Hatton would blow Amir away in a few rounds at the moment - absolutely no debate to be had on this one yet.

Can't comprehend anyone picking Khan over Hatton just yet. He was decked by Willie Limond FFS. A light-punching super-feather, his uppercut was the key shot for me last week as it stopped GSC racing in head down. Well picked and well executed several times early on.

However, even the 60% Hatton currently on show is too much strength and bite to his punches for Khan to win.

Hatton was meant to fight 5 more times, here we are February, and not a sign of an opponent, or fight date. So 12 weeks from tomorrow takes to when....7th May.

He'll fight twice this year, and once, maybe twice next year including a pension fund Mayweather rematch.

don1t really believe Hatton slipped back so much has his opponents got better, Zoo was a gift it was payday for zoo and the ref helped Hatton a lot. with Mayweather well we all knew a yank ref in the states was never gonna let Hatton do the same rough house stuff he got away with fighting zoo.

Result we all no but lets be honest and not be too harsh on Ricky he was'nt doing that bad. I think he lost confidence when he could'nt push mayweather about
