More questions for boxingchat

Post by beagleboy »

To clear up some debates on another thread your help would be appreciated

When Witter was offered the Judah fight at late notice, was Hatton offered the fight?
When Hatton was the WBO mandatory challenger, was he offered the Corley fight?
Was Hatton ever offered a Witter fight?
Was there any truth in Hatton's story that he had a Witter fight written into his contract?

When Witter was offered the Judah fight at late notice, was Hatton offered the fight? NO
When Hatton was the WBO mandatory challenger, was he offered the Corley fight? YES
Was Hatton ever offered a Witter fight? MANY TIMES
Was there any truth in Hatton's story that he had a Witter fight written into his contract? YES, BUT AT THE SAME TIME HE HAD TO AGREE TO ACTUALLY DOING IT. HORSE TO WATER AND ALL THAT. IN HIS DEFENCE FOR THE MONEY IT WOULD HAVE TOOK TV COULDN'T MAKE IT WORK AS WITTER MEANT NOTHING. HATTON WILL NEVER FIGHT WITTER, HE DOESN'T FANCY IT AT ALL.

HATTON WANTED MAXIMUM REWARD FOR MINIMUM RISK. MAYWAETHER, FOR BIG BUCKS WAS THE EXCEPTION.

I think Witter should really go for it by really offending Ricky to get the interest. He should be on every site, paper, radio show, television outlet etc telling the world Hatton has chickened out, he should be ringside goading him, mocking him - hell it cant do any harm.

He should become MR VISIBLE, wherever Hatton is he should within 10 feet.

The more Hatton said he didn't want the fight because Witter insulted him, he should have done it ten times worse not backed off.

I don't :)

Witter has done enough trash talking and it has gotten him no where. If he was to go into overdrive with it, then I suspect Hatton would dig his heels in even more.

Hennessey should really be in touch with the Hatton's on a regular basis about getting the fight made, and I dont mean by pushing out press release's none stop which appears the normal Hennessey way.

I disagree too. He/his promoter should have been building his own profile to try and rival that of Hatton's.
Make the general public see him as a good or greater fighter just with a lower profile.
It's very hard to make people start liking you but beating people in style then challenging Ricky alll over the press after each result would be the best way to get the public excited about the match up. The Harris fight was good but wasn't built upon as it could have been hopefully a Hopkins win will be suitable platform as well.

To stand the best chance of getting this fight made, Junior should be back with allegedly... Whether that's a realistic possibility or not these days, i don't know....

Its surely not after the way Witter was treated last time by SN.

Witters tried talking Hatton into the fight and it didn't work, hes tried being respectful towards Hatton and that still didn't work, so fcuk it!! If Hattons going to avoid him then Witter should be making sure every man, dog and armadillo knows what Hatton is doing. He should be screaming his name from the rooftops, taking out adverts in papers, he should be taunting him from ringside, turning up to the Phoenix gym in bus full of journos, do some more punditry for Sky and Setanta and bellow "HATTONS STILL RUNNING FROM ME!!!!", hire a plane with a banner to fly around, try and get an interview with a local Manchester paper and diss Hatton....... etcetra etcetra etcetra

Hatton would love Junior to shut his fcuking gob, so that he can continue to avoid him in peace and quiet. I don't think Junior should give him that luxury.

I'm appalled at Hattons avoidance of Witter and Junior shouldn't be making it easy for him.

Tszyu = Two rounds in nearly three years, knees were shot to pieces. Hatton publicly said he wanted it so he got it at the best possible time due to Warren's timing and cash.

Castillo - Remind me what weight was he at his best? considered a shot fighter by all those in the trade. Good name for the CV but little risk.

Who picked Pedersen? Who wanted an extra £100k to fight him too?

Hatton?? Hatton??

Pederson took the fight at short notice when I think Pinto pulled out, so its difficult to diss Hatton for that one IMO, but if he wanted an extra £100k to fight a lightweight who took the fight at short notice and had hardly mixed in World Class then that's taking the Michael

I thought it was Tszyu's shoulders which were bad, not his knees?

SN & Witter don't have to like each other, they'd just have to work with each other... It's the only way I can see for Junior to get the exposure he needs to force this fight.. Fighting in front of 2000 people in Doncaster just isnt gonna do it.. If there's one thing FW can do its get his fighters mainstream publicity....

I don't see why the fact that Witter fought in front of a few thousand in Doncaster last time out should effect his chances of fighting Hatton. Sparking Harris BIG stylee and fighting Hopkins on USTV and Sky should give him the exposure he needs, plus hes the joint best in the division and holder of the WBC title.

Its not Juniors lack of fanbase thats stopping the fight happening its Hattons reluctance to get in the ring, it makes no difference whether Witter is fighting under Mick Hennessey or Sports Network, Hattons reluctance remains constant.

MH has done wonders for Juniors career since Witter left SN, hes held British, Commonwealth, Euro and World Champion titles, whereas Frankybabes was happy to watch him rot. I know people say there is very little loyalty in boxing, but even by boxings standards Witter moving back to SN would be a filthy lowdown dirty trick....its never going to happen in a million years and IMO he wouldn't gain anything from it (apart from another face)

A little harsh your assessment on the Tszyu situation - the man was injured, he couldn't have really got in at a much different time. Had Hatton was probably ready for Tszyu when he was on the sidelines.... before that Hatton wasn't ready, and he would say that publically.

Just wandering, as you do seem to have some insiders knowledge - whats Khan like behind closed doors. Does he have this "Hatton" mentality when it comes to risk reward... Is he really wanting a world title crack in the summer like he says publically.
