The point i was making by starting this thread (it does say off topic) was that i would hazard a guess that most on here have been at a live fight and we all know the drinking and atmosphere that goes with it... therefore i reckon the kiddy should have been tucked up in bed and there is no real excuse for her to be there. Granted there was loads of family around so its not like she was gonna come to any harm.

I agree with whicker: it's an intimidating atmosphere for youngsters. That's my problem with it, rather than the actual fights. To address your point about attraction to a violent sport: don't we all want our children to better us?

In this country children box from the age of 10. Many start training a few years earlier. That ‘s without giving lesser developed countries a mention. Without that depth and breadth many fighters in particular, and the game in general, wouldn’t realise the potential that many fans enjoy watching. Do you not think that it is intimidating for a child to box another child whilst adults are shouting them on? So I will ask again what is the allure of the game if it’s against your innate sensibilities.

For the record I watched older relatives box from the age of 5 and boxed from the age of 10 up until I was 23. I also got a degree from an old poly/new uni whilst still boxing. I’d like to think I’m a reasonably well adjusted individual and my boxing experiences outside/inside the ring didn’t do me any harm as a kid (admittedly I’m not all things to all people – but I wouldn’t want to be).

Whatever the reason for the child being at the uncle’s sporting event I doubt he/she will remember much about it and people shouldn’t be so fooking judgemental.
