I know i am probably being wise after the event but i was never that sold on Williams to be honest although his stirring win over Margarito did sway me a little to his abilities. I didn't see the fight or any reports other than the score totals but ever since seeing Williams fight the awful Pakau i was suspicious. Colin Hart was skeptical of claims he was the new Hearns, even saying Hearns should sue!
Boxing News often depict him as the second coming but despite his freakish tallness and volume punching he generates little power by smothering his work. Anyway i suppose this kind of exonerates Mayweather who claimed neither Margarito nor Williams were in his league and it turned out he was right.
I was looking forward to Williams-Cintron/Cotto as well but it's back to the drawing board now. Any thoughts?

Fair play to Quintana though. A smart, smooth boxer who ran rings round Julio but just couldn't handle Cotto's power. Makes the Cotto win look even better now in my book and Williams will have to rethink things. Methinks Williams might play the weight card and say he was drained, then possibly a move up to Light-Middleweight.
i think williams is a good honest fighter but i think people overrated his victory over margarito (who isn't all he's cracked up to be anyway).
i haven't seen much of quintana to be honest, in fact the only fight of his that i've seen was his loss to cotto.
will the footage of the quintana - williams fight be shown over here?

Hell of a surprise for me, as I reckoned anyone who beats Margario has to be the real deal. Brilliant comeback from the Cotto battering by Qunitana. I think Williams has been avoided by the likes of Cintron and co.
From the photos, it looks like Quintana had to pay a heavy price to beat Williams - his face looks like it's been through a threshing machine.
I think Margariot beats Cintron again as well.

I too was surprised by this result. I thought that Williams is/was an excellent talent (by no means a Hearns BTW) fighting at a weight he must be struggling with. I haven't seen the fight, but even after Margarito I thought that Williams would be best suited moving up a division (I said as much on the CF in the immediate aftermath of Margarito fight).
As for Quintana - great result for him. Perhaps he doesn't like being smothered by aggressive strong punchers like Cotto and needs a bit of space and distance to do his best work as a backfoot counterpuncher.

To be fair to Williams, this was a bit of a nothing fight - anyone not wanting to download it is doing themselves a major favour, as I can promise having wasted two hours of last night on the same endeavor!
Basically Quintana came with a gameplan for Williams, and it worked; he spotted that Williams like to come steadily forward and get his work in, and managed to land decent shots off the back foot around that. I didn;t get the impression that Williams was drained at all, just that he was up against a guy who had got him worked out, and that he had not come with a plan B in place.
Interestingly, the American fasns are already suggesting he was robbed, which is a crock of sh1te!

Nor was I sold on Williams. The Pakau fight really pissed me off. And he made a meal out of Matthysse, who fell in 2 to Cintron.
I even thought Margarito beat Williams by a point. Wasn't impressed by the Margo fight as he throws lots of shots like he's just touching you. Margo was in control after he got past the reach, with rights to head an dbody.
Anyway, I liked Quintana a lot after beating Julio. It was a beautiful exhibition vs the best prospect of all time (LOL). Thought the Cotto spanking had finished him at this level though.
If I had to pick between Quintana and Williams before Quint fought Cotto and before Pwill fought Margarito, I would have picked Quintana without doubt to win a hard one.
