King of the Gypsies
Just out of interest, has anyone got any interesting gypsy fights containing King of Gypsies,
Was hoping to get any of Dan Rooney apparently King of Gypsies around the 80's, the reason I ask is my boxing coach used to work the doors on an old nightclub years back and trained two local gypsy fighters at the time (Price brothers), they had some sort of connection, through family no doubt.
One time Dan Rooney paid visit to Grimsby to visit the prices and went into the nightclub were my coach worked the doors, apparently he was a big intimidating fella with an aura about him, no trouble occured that night, Dan was just seen dancing with his misses looking slightly worse for wear, A very respectful bloke apparently, but looked like the sort of bloke who was a complete handful
I have seen one fight of his when he boxed Ernie McGinley, Lennie McLean commentates on this, I know this is kind of a random post but just would be good to see Dan Rooney or any of these King of the Gypsies fighters in action.

Re: King of the Gypsies
There are some fights available on ebay and also on youtube. Seen the one with McGinley and Rooney, unclear who won, though for the majority Rooney seemed a class above McGinley.Matt Teague wrote:Just out of interest, has anyone got any interesting gypsy fights containing King of Gypsies,

Is there any footage available of Bartley Gorman, seems he was undisputed king of the gypsies. To be fair though, Johnny Frankham and Henry Wharton are probably the most skilled and proven in that they made careers out of fighting.

Iv got plenty of these knacker dvds. Dan was a good fighter from Crossmaglen. Have a great video of him and his gang travellin to Luton to fight Michael Cash. Some funny stuff.
U might have heard of another knacker called Big Joe Joyce. Hes a mouthpiece and absolute tramp, but he was meant to be King of the Gypsies. He had rows with the McDonaghs, and Baldy J Quinn McDonagh was another good gypsie
The fight are brutal though, but the videos and commentary are hillarious!

Johnny Coyle and Patrick Doherty are two wound up young men
Baldy J Quinn McDonagh is one of the best of the bare knuckle gypsies I have seen in terms of boxing skills: he is the star of the famous youtube clip bareknuckle fight 'Pikeys in Nikes'
