Jamie Pittman vs. Felix Sturm

Post by Tunney »

It was announced this morning that Felix Sturm will fight Jamie Pittman (16-0) for his WBA middleweight title in April.

I'm in Canada and I don't know anything about Pittman - can somebody tell me a little about him?

We all know Sakio has minimal defence so a quick fighter will always look good against him. But if u seen Pittman Drop Bika then thats somthing to talk about.

Sparring is a lot different to fighting, Bika would KO pittman in a real fight.

I suppose Pittman's unbeaten record makes him look good to the German promoter. Good luck to him. If nothing else it will be a decent payday.

Boxrec do not seem to think much of Sturm. They have him rated lower than Geale. 8)

Sturm is VERY average but his (poor) level of competition is still a step above Jamie's at this stage. It will be a tough fight for Pittman but I hope he can give a good account of himself.

Any word on the cash he is making for this fight?

If he hits Sturm hard enough he can do it.

Pittman is a big chance in this fight - being a world title fight the three judges would be nuetral wouldn't they?

Look at the men Mundine has defended against lately. It does not take much to get a title shot.

Pittman does hold a WBA regional title (Pan African), has beaten Super Middleweights and held several minor titles. His being unbeaten does not hurt his cause either.

if you have the record. he can get anyone a shot. how this bloke does so much for boxers and boxing, and he stays under the radar of local fame, i'll never know.

he got gavin topp a shot recently. maelino vs ashira, now pittman, and lots of others earlier. anyone want a shot?

Sturm did not hold a title when Topp fought him. It was the fight between his losing the title against Castillejo and his winning it back.

This score implies a Strum knock down and he hasn't done that in years.

No offense to Pittman but this fight is a joke. He went 12 rounds with a guy that was 6-4 in his last fight and he gets a title shot? Only 6 of his opponants had tens wins when he fought them.

There is a high burn out rate for middleweights in this part of the world. Not many have a lot of fights because the competition is so fierce. Pittman also has a win against South African super middleweight William Gare, who in his most recent fight KOed former WBA Middleweight champ Maselinoe Masoe in four rounds. Masoe went the distance losing his title to Sturm. The WBA has to be consistent. If Masoe is one of their former champions, they have to consider form relating to him.
