Why did Darrin Van Horn retire?

I just watched an old fight of James Toney's, and he said he'd be defending his super-middleweight title against Van Horn in July ('93).

Anybody know why that fight never took place?

He must have assumed he would beat Iran Barkley which of course he did not so Toney fought Barkley and beat him instead.

I don't think your reason works. See, here's a a very brief timeline:

Jan 1992 - Barkley beats Van Horn
Feb 1993 - Toney beats Barkley
June 1993- Toney beats Glenn Thomas, and says in the post-fight interview that he'll be fighitng Van Horn in July. But the fight never happened.

Van Horn ended his career in 1994, with his fourth win in a row. I wonder why he retired, and why he stayed retired?

Anyone know?
