Clitoris?
There was a young lady from Ealing,
Who claimed to need sexual feeling,
til a cynic named Ahmed,
hacked off her Clitoris,
And left her bleeding and squealing.

Even in limerick form, it seems quite serious. :TU:

I don't agree. I've known many kids start young and fizzle out in later life. And the opposite of course: keen young men with sudden conviction to have a go at it. Unless you're living on a rough estate, I don't think taking a child boxing is a great idea. Football, athletics and the rest are mentally healthier.
So I will ask again what is the allure of the game if it’s against your innate sensibilities.
Boxing can occasionally give us a spectacle of bravery to admire. It's the only non-war activity to offer this in its purest form.

I’m not entirely sure what you disagree with exactly GM.

Confining the argument to this country, kids can start boxing from the age of 10 (as I’m sure you must know) and the huge majority of top fighters are drawn from the much larger pool of kids that start boxing from an early age. Hamed, Calzaghe, Hatton, Haye etc are more modern examples, but the list goes on and on and goes back as far I can remember. This is not to mention all the Area, British and Euro level fighters with a strong junior boxing grounding. Of course, for many kids boxing fizzles out when they get older as they find their level and/or their priorities change and their interests widen, but this can happen in any sport. This just strengthens my argument about depth. Boxers that come to the game late and succeed are in the minority because they lack the type of pedigree and experience necessary. So to go back to my point: boxing survives and indeed thrives on the depth and breadth that starting from an early age provides ie as children. Now you may not agree with that but it’s a fact.

If everyone were to apply your sensibilty that it is wrong to take a child boxing and therefore we don’t then the game would be even more thinner on the ground than it has already become, thus depriving you of some of the spectacles that you so admire. You may think it's wrong to take your kid boxing, that's fair enough and up to you. Boxing traditionally draws from the working classes and is not for every child – they all have their own personalities – but to suggest it's wrong for other parents to take them and imply that it’s in some way damaging isn't correct either in my experience and is far too judgemental.

You argue that taking kids football, athletics etc. is healthier. Well what’s wrong with them doing a range of sports? Participating in a sport doesn’t have to be an exclusive exercise you know. They can settle into the one they enjoy more or have a more natural talent for.

No offence, but I think you are being a tad sanctimonious pal with your views, but perhaps your take on the sport and enjoyment of it comes from a very different place than mine.

Certain US faiths still have a below our age consent and the age of content dips below teenage years in a number of countries. Any charge levelled at a Muslim leader can be levelled at past Christian leaders or the Crusaders, who destroyed swathes of literature due to their ignorance.

Plus it is pretty hard to gauge the real age of people from past ages, especially people connected to faith, because the measuring method was shot to pieces. Do you really think these old fellas in the Bible lived for centuries.

Taking an either/or attitude, on both sides, just shows that your knowledge is pretty limited.

You may need to remove "class" from your name, as you obviously have none.
why ? because i say that a 2 year old watching Amir Khan box is nothing to worry about ?

Or is it,that i say womens boxing is gross Loynesy ?

oh that women boxer is"sexy" the mob says, as they cheer on BOXREC ,as they get "turned on"
by women punching each other in the face, the standards of the west have slipped,if you cant see that IMO,maybe you are the one that lacks class
if you dont like the west then f off back to the east

That's fair enough. When I said children I was referring to the under-10s.

A friend of mine started training outside the gyms aged 9, because his dad hoped he'd become a prospect. He never enjoyed boxing at that time. When he reached about 13 he began to see benefits in terms of anti-bullying etc.

So I'm coming at it from the perspective of forcing kids to do it. I don't mind anyone letting their boys train if they ask to. I've just been around a lot of unhappy lads doing it to keep their dad stable.

Well I wouldn’t advocate forcing any kid to do boxing let alone any other sport that would leave them feeling unhappy. The huge majority of kids that have ever taken part in boxing have went on to achieve little that’s significant within the context of this forum and that’s the same with any other sport. That’s life and shouldn’t preclude them from being successful in any other aspect of their lives.

This thread started out with some moral judgement about a member of the Khan family taking a 2 y.o. to their relative’s boxing event. Personally I think that should be at the parents’ discretion. I’m not sure whether some of the views on here are just a free kick at the Khan family for whatever reason, but I’ll leave that one aside. Who knows why the kid was there anyway - or any other kid for that matter.

The intimidating atmosphere argument doesn’t wash with me either. I’ve seen many kids at Premiership football games amongst many foaming at the mouth fans, effing and blinding, calling the ref and opposing players all the names under the sun. The choice to take kids to matches should also be at the parents’ discretion.

The majority of fighters we have enjoyed watching in the past, enjoy watching today and will continue to enjoy in the future start their careers as kids and provide the backbone of the sport. I think people need to bear that in mind when pontificating about whether children, of any age, should be taken to boxing events – let alone a relative’s.

So forgive me if I find some of the views on this thread sanctimonious. I would be able to understand them more on a different forum with people who are anti boxing or are disaffected by it, but not fans that follow the sport and appreciate it.
