Eff me Joe Calzaghe's started his sparring in the past about 10 days before a fight cos of his hands being injured.
And in any event is your THUMB really relevant cos I was of the impression that you weren't allowed to use that part of the hand.
Pulling out is bad enough but then to PUBLICLY (as is this Lex-Luther style bonced style) say you'd have trounced your opponent anyway cos he's no good just shows the class of the man IMO.
If he's so much better than Amar as he says he is then he should be able to win with a dicky thumb you don't even hit with in the first place.
My friend Fearless Francis Jones (who incidentally is another one Hatton has shamefully shat on in the National Boxing Press) was crashed into by a bus last year one week before a fight in Ireland with Neil Sinclair, one of the hardest punchers Europe has produced. He suffered pretty bad whiplash and on the day of the fight was still feeling the effects. With a combination of some clever rolling ducking and diving not to mention excellent stamina he was able to dispatch of Sinclair in the 5th round in some style, in one of the most inaccurately reprted fights I've ever read in the boxing news - you'd have thought he'd come back from the dead to beat him) - it's on RTE or Youtube probably for anyone wants a gander.
My point is the same one which Kevin Anderson alluded to in the Boxing Monthly recently when mentioning Hatton , who had been up to his old tricks calling him out - that is - there are real boxers/fighters - then there are these guys out there that just like going round calling folk out knowing full well they won't turn up to get a beating so it's ok. Hatton ludicrously was banding his name about with Nuumbembe too at one point, if memory serves me, to look like a big name - Nuumbembe would have chewed him up and spat him out like a shark. Minter would have been just another one IMO but luckily he jumped ship from that one cos he could cite family loyalty as his brother had left that promoter.
This man's tactic seems to me to be to fight in America or Monte Carlo whilst ducking the cream of the crop over here (last opponent was 1 win in 8 going in I think and that Frank Houghtling was about to go to prison for fraud straight after that fight too, it was reported) - then just whinge about not being given a crack at the British title while you publicly besmirch the efforts of those who have the balls to go for it, the hope being eventually when you've beat 30 stiffs they'll get suckered into letting him box for it in what would be some shit or bust mismatch against whoever was champion at the time.
