Tony Ayala under house arrest till he gets a job

Tony Ayala Jr. has avoided receiving a prison term for violating his probation, but the future's still uncertain for the 40-year-old San Antonio man. Ayala was ordered by judge Maria Teresa Herr to get a job.
Herr, decided against revoking Ayala's probation for breaking curfew, but ordered that Ayala be placed under 24-hour house arrest until he can show the court he has found employment. Ayala is 20 pounds overweight and hasn't set foot in a gym since he lost to an obscure fighter last April.
"It can't get any worse," Ayala told the San Antonio News last Tuesday.
Ayala was serving 10 years' probation after pleading guilty to burglary in 2001 (he breaks into empty houses and waits for the female householders to return so he can rape them). He previously served 16 years after being convicted in 1983 of raping a schoolteacher. At the time of that conviction, the boxer once known as El Torito, was considered a can't miss light-middleweight prospect.

I suppose this could almost be on Boxers of the past.

What a fighter Ayala could have been. Reminds me a bit of Tyson insofar as physically he was already a man when he was a young boy.

I think he fought former Jnr Middleweight Title challenger Mike Baker in about his fifth fight.

An incredible talent.

What a waste.

Saw Ayala's losing performance whilst enjoying a couple of drinks in Brown's in Shoreditch (if anyone knows that particular classy joint

).

He was over weight, balding and showed little of the passion or skill of his earlier career. I enjoyed watching him lose and hope he is now for ever removed from boxing.

He was a nasty stain on the boxing landscape. Good ridance.
