Pavlik V Taylor II **Spoiler**

I had Pavlik by a round. Pavlik seems to be one of those feakishly tall fighters that can sustain a workrate throughout whilst having undeniable strength and power. I prefer the style and ability of Taylor when he unloads with his quick hands especially when he puts punches together - he looks class. But he never varied his game by showing many angles and lateral movement and most importantly working Pavlik's body more.

This was a difficult, at times, fight to score with the frontfoot workrate of Pavlik against the eyecatching speed and effectiveness of Taylor. This fight was largely fought in straight lines which I do not particularly like at this level. I think the right man won though on the night in a close fight.

It Was A 115-113 Pavlik win in my book - Taylor dosnt do himself favours not bobbing & weaving which in turn the straight right from Pavlik makes him look silly....

Shots to the body in the final third of the fight from Pavlik just pipped it for him i think.....

Good call. A couple of times he made Pavlik wince when he targetted the body and there was plenty of body to aim for!

I think that while Taylor got himself in the best shape possible - the extra weight preventing another KO loss - Kelly Pavlik wasn't in the best shape. Ray Mancini did show concerns that Pavlik left it to the last minute to get to Vegas, hence not acclimitising properly etc. Because there was a definite lack of snap early on with KP. He did seem out of sorts. Or perhaps it was the extra weight, combined with Taylor's speed, who knows.

Taylor is in some bloody close fights, isn't he? Even though he lost, it was good to see him hitting a big target, trading blows, as opposed to those annoying nip and truck fights like Hopkins and Spinks.

I suppose if you saw fights differently then Taylor could have six or more losses on the column instead of two!

This fight should have been scored much closer, the judges were way out. Pavlik was consist with his output, but he did almost no eyecatching work. Taylor fought in spurts a lot but his overall work was much cleaner than Pavlik's, he was the fighter getting off with the clean, powerful shots.

It was very difficult to score.

I kind of switched off (in a mental sense) and stopped scoring the fight by the midway point because I really was finding it difficult to pick a winner in many rounds.

117-111 seemed very wide....

The judges scorecards were too wide. I just had Pavlik winning, Taylor faded towards the end. I think Pavlik will beat Duddy next

I had Taylor by 2 points, but it was an extremely difficult fight to score

I don't know where he got 117-111 for Pavlik from mind

On second viewing I had Pavlik winning wider.... The old man thought it was a decisive Pavlik win.

Whilst I still don't have as wide as 117-111, I can see how that score card came about. It was a good, but reptitive fight. Do you go for Pavlik's consistency, or Taylor's flash... obviously picked Pavlik's consistency.

The main thing that stays in my mind after the fight is how annoying the commentary was - not so much what they were saying but FOUR guys all wanting to say their bit.

And Ray mancini made some good points but sounded like he'd drunk 10 espressos and inhaled a bit of helium....

Yep the commentating was absolutely terrible, yadah yadah all night, half the time they weren't even watching the fight - listening to one American can be hard sometimes, but four of them all yacking away was the pits.
What next, five of em?

Sounded like Ray Mancini has a bit of a grudge against his fellow hometowner as well.

I thought Pavlik looked a bit under motivated, going over old ground I suppose, but thought he just about won it. Give him Calzaghe.

I thought Pavlik looked a bit under motivated, going over old ground I suppose, but thought he just about won it. Give him Calzaghe.

I disagree on Mancini - I don't think he did... he seemed confident than Pavlik would win - saying he is a very technically sound fighter (I still think he is a limited head hunter)... he just questioned if Pavlik had prepared correctly... and I thought it was wise to question that.

More concerned than a grudge is how I viewed it.

I wonder if the fight that was once considered a "dream" fight - by American fight fans might now become a 2nd grade reality... Taylor vs Lacy.

definitely, that was going to be the big fight 1 day. but i think pavlik-taylor 1 and 2 were ample compensation for boxing. 1st one was very dramatic; 2nd one was a long, bruising fight. nice little rivalry.
