I think people are assuming that Diaz will vacate the belt, meaning he may be.

Then again it might not.

I think everyone judging any match or route to a title that Amir takes on their glass chin theories is a bit simplistic.

You can visibly see how he's still growing into his body, he regularly spars with tough middles at Oliver's and his defence has looked a lot more sound since that night.

They offered Thaxton a fight for good money, he turned it down. Now FW sees a potential route to what Amir wants i.e. a World Title shot against a very beatable Katsidis (if all the political scenarios play out like they're likely to), so why fight Romanov????

I know he's been mentioned, but that's boxing. Potential opponents are always touted. Amir doesn't need to name drop to get credibility, he's got an olympic medal, and massive TV pulling power already for that.
I agree. As I've said before. A fighter being hurt early in their career doesn't neccessarily translate into them being chinny later on. Khan's chin was so high before he looked like a Meer Cat, and whilst he still has that habit, he has literally wound his neck in a bit when he fights, and is more aware of what is coming back at him.

He should fight Romanov as he needs more competitive fights before fighting at world title level IMO. Knockover jobs and 120-108 fights are great for his confidence but when he has to get in the trenches or gut it out further down the line competitive fights at this stage of his career will stand him in good stead.

I certainly don't think they should go for Romanov yet as I don't think he's ready. Shame they felt they needed to use his name this early.

Thaxton though I think is the next general step. British champion, tough fighter, hard hitter and Khan should have too much for him. Unfortunately, they seem obsessed with this "youngest champion" crap and I think it'll hurt Khan in the long run.

Definitely, and I'm really looking forward to that fight. In fact, any fight with Katsidis in it is almost bound to be entertaining.

What a mess, Casamayor is the interim WBC champ and Katsidis the interim WBO champ. So does that mean we'll have our first unified interim champ? :-? :-? :-? :-?

If Diaz vacates the belt, you can bet that Khan will find himself fighting the new "champion" in little more than a year. It'll be just too tempting. Hey, maybe, provided Katsidis becomes champ, they can somehow wait for Katsidis to vacate as well, LOL

People keep ignoring the fact that Katsides isn't a world champion though don't they
its a WBO eliminator.... A fight which he wants to win so he can get a title shot..

Observer again... Yeah they want him to fight Katsidis for the WBO belt, but they dont like his chances v Thaxton or Romanov?

Why does Amir have to avoid the traditional British then Commonwealth then European learning curve? Its all pick and choose the weakest guys and hope for an easy interim version of a dodgy belt.

Amirs match making reminds me of one of those white american clubfighters dressed up as contenders with glossy 30-0 records and no substance.

In my view, Khan could fight who he wants at this stage in his career if he stopped rattling on about being world class.

Although I enjoyed watching him against St Clair, he has still to earn my respect as a fighter. If I'm honest, this fight won't do it.

There have been other fighters who were rocked and even put down early in their pro career who have gone on to get a rep as having a sound chin .. the obvious one being Oscar De La Hoya.
Though thats wher the similarities end ..
Oscar dropped down a weight category from the amateurs.. and was visibly starved at the weight .. and had flash knockdown by genuine guys at that weight.

Khan was knocked down as an amateur .. and almost instantly pulled out of the ABA`s before he faced any other decent puncher in the latter stages.
In the pro`s he was all wobbly legged .. which hardly suggests a flash knockdown .. by an opponent who normally opperated at a lower weight .. and was a non-puncher there also.

As for sparing middleweights .. so what .. the middles are hardly going for a KO are they .. Naz sparred regular with cruiserweights .. does that mean he had the chin to take their shots?

The facts are .. he isn`t the humble guy we thought he was when we all cheered him on at the Olympics.
He lost in the Olympics .. silver is 2nd
Thaxton was avoided after Khan bad-mouthed him continually.
He has looked a division bigger than every fighter he`s faced ... and everyone of those have been non-punchers .. or sadly `shot.
He now is looking for a typical British easy route to the top.

The only good thing to come out of this is that I believe ITV are now aware of the `Khan-con`..
Froch - who I also never took to before - has mellowed some and is beginning to grow on me some, he is getting ITV billing and I truly believe he will be our next genuine world class fighter who will deserve our praise and recognition.
Froch will show ITV what we want to see .. genuine ambition and genuine fights.
Fwank is whinging about ITV now .. he won`t be there for long.
Let him and `Trash-Khan` disapear into obscurity on Setanta .. good riddance. :TU:

do you actually read other peoples comments??

Khan offered him, Thaxton declined..

Now Khan is after Bigger Fish. Thaxton has changed his mind, khan has snubbed him and says he will deal with him later.

You couldn't of hit the nail any more squarely on the head. This could be Amirs wikipedia entry. These listed reasons are why there is such a backlash around here against Amir, despite the odd cousin of his lingering around and continually trying to defend his ultra crappy easy match ups as 'genuine progression'....

I live in Surrey and have never seen Khan in the flesh, yet I will say that I'm happy with the way he has been matched. He's 21 years old. There's plenty of time for him to learn before he decides to get in the ring with World class opponents. I think you just want to see him fail.

Edit: And I'll add that my heritage is English (with a tiny bit of Scottish) and I'm not religious, so race and religion have nothing to do with my opinion of Khan.

It's always any Feeble attempt to win an argument with you isn't it overhand...
I guess the Likes of Ali, Tyson Lewis, Holy field were all Frauds since they never became World Champs in their first 16.

BTW Tony, you make it like Silver in the Olympics is a bad thing... Considering the dude he fought as an Amatuer all his life, wining 2 Olympic Gold's and 3 World Championship Golds.... I would think a 17 year old getting that far is quite a feat?

Besides, Justice was done when they fought in Bolton with Professional Rules and Khan Beat him...

But im sure im wrong, since you appear to be Boxing Expert, a Boxing Fan, denouncing almost every boxer there is. :TU:

If a guy wins a world title in his 16th or 76th fight makes no difference to me .. that is a modern trend along with the no losses on a record that seems to make a difference to how you rate a boxer

Silver at the Olympics is a fantastic achievment .. as is a bronze ... though sadly nowadays the Olympic medal does not guarantee success in the pro game.
They hype the silver as if it was a gold .. theres where the problem lies with me .. and OK he beat Kinderlan in his last amateur fight  ... did you see the effort Mario put in  .. do you even know why Kinderlan was over here for? .. and why did he quickly pull out of the ABA`s when he had said before (always trash talk before - even back then) how important it was to win the ABA`s ... the competition was only going to get better after he`d been put on his arse .. the chin was questioned even back then ... excuse of tickets came next .. and more arrogance, hype and bullshat followed..

Boxing expert?... we all like to think that don`t we?
Boxing fan?... without doubt :TU:
Denounce almost every boxer? .. only the hype jobs - which I`m afraid to admit is what your cousin `Trash-Khan` is :TU:

he's not my cousin ffs ! :P

Im not saying the guys the best fighter, but i seriously think you need to cut the lad some Slack, at least he is not padding hid record with a bout 40 fights and then beginning to think of a Title Shot.

You can atleast admit, he has Shown massive improvement from his Last fights..

Far from World-Class, but Potential is there IMO, give him a chance

I was under the impression that Kastidis was fighting Casamayor for the interim WBC belt?

That means that if Juan Diaz vacates, which is a possibilty with the pending madatory obligations of holding 3 belts, the other two being more highly regarded.

So it is more likely we will see Khan be 'awarded' the belt or have a box off for the vacant title, presumably not against Kastidis.

Its a similar situation with Arthur, I guess Guzman is more likely to vacate than fight Alex in Scotland?

The question is, where does Frank find these fighters, Kristjenson (sp) etc. Relative unknowns ranked highly by the WBO who fit the perfect opponent criteria for Khan (a few losses, low KO % etc).

I agree Khan is young and needs to be guided carefully but there is no need to con the public with this 'World Title' rubbish. At least us true fans know what the score is.

Its very simple.

In 1995 George Foreman 'requested' in some manner the IBF rank Axel Schulz in their top 12 so he could defend against him.

Everytime a fighter signs with Don King he appears in the top 10 of the WBA and WBC regardless of his record.

Cedrick Kushner exchanges brown paper bags and his fighters gain rankings.

The WBO, who've made big money off allegedly over the years, will of course agree to rank strange, obscure foreign fighters with crappy ratings in their top 10, who then appear as mandatory challengers and eliminator fodder for his stable. Amir Khan/Kristenhenssesneensbenwnenen fits in here.

Right guys, lets get back on topic

In my puzzling quest to eventually win money in an amir khan fight I need to find out about this kristjansen guy because Khan on points looks good value so far at 6/1.

However despite the guy looking tough on paper we all know his points loss to feather fisted stefano zoff means nothing in a vacuum.

Who's seen kristjansen? Has he ever been down? Faced remoteley good opposition? Done anything to suggest he can hang tough and last the distance?

I think I have seen all of his fight (maybe except maybe a few early fights). He turned pro with a 96-23 amateur record. 2 time danish champ, fourght for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. He is trained by his father.
He has been down twice, both times in the 2nd Zoff fight. I dont think he will pose any problems for Khan, but he should be able to go most of the distance.

I agree with this, but - and it's a big thing, you haven't factored in his hubris. You're welcome to maintain that it's all part of boxing - can't argue with that, I'd just have way more time for him if he'd show a little reserve.

Avoid the big talk if you don't feel ready to take on a major challenge. No-one actually minds steady progress from a humble learner.
