Does Witter have a fight?

Post by Phenomenal-Nutrition »

A couple of weeks ago DHOPs pulled out of a fight with Witter. So now what? Does Witter have a replacement? Will DHOPs see sense and fight? Will Witter fight in 2008? What a farce

Hennessy was quoted in Boxing News as saying Witter WILL fight on that date and venue even if Hopkins doesn't.

March 22nd ain't far away, so if its gonna be a semi-decent opponent he'll have to be named soon. Boxrec still has him down to fight D-Hop (means feck all I know).

I suppose it doesn't help that Rickys looking for an opponent at the same time as they can easily outbid MH.

Have I mentioned that I think Ricky and Junior should fight each other?

I wonder if Hopkins is pulling a clever game of 'I know now I've agreed to the fight you need me so Im pulling out but I wont if you trebble my pay'

Think he also said he's not looking too hard for an opponent because he still has faith he'll be fighting D Hop.

Probably being a bit like his uncle. Only without the talent and stature.

I wouldn't even try to negotiate a Hopkins away from his last 'Rollo' to be honest.
remember the advert when the elephant whacked the smarmy smug kid in the face (albeit when he'd grown up) for his last rollo? No relevance there, just thought I'd add it in. Errrm... Hatton chicken rollos Witter.

Maybe, but surely he has some say in where his career is going, 2 defenses in 18 months so far.
For someone like Witter who stays in shape and is never far from the gym, its not good enough

I agree re: the defences, not his fault about D-Hop.

What are the alternatives for Witter? Warren?? - Fight Academy???

You see my point?

Yeah but you can't say Warren hasn't deleivered top paydays and big name fights, for his best boxers.

Benn, Eubank, Bruno, Calzaghe, Hatton , Hamed have all earned great paydays when with Warren.
And he kept them busy, because if the boxer isn't earning money then neither is the promoter.

Exactly.. And remember, Warren did get Junior the Pinto fight (when Pinto was a rated name) on a Hatton undercard, only for Junior to pull out....

I'm still not sure why Witter and Warren would be so unworkable these days... To me it seems the logical option. Boxingchat suggested there is no bad feelings between the two and if Warren is looking for a fighter to press Hatton at 140 then there's noone better out there than Witter (certainly M'Baye didn't do it)... Plus, there is no British promoter better than Warren in terms of coverage, publicity and exposure which is just what Junior needs.

As of last night Hopkins was still mulling over the offer. I'm guessing Witter gets a serious edge out of Hopkins not knowing what he's gonna do.

Eubank got around 150k a fight with Frank, despite the fact he went on Parkinson the wk before the Calzaghe fight on the Nazeem card and after going in Parkinson and speaking of his come come back suddently ppv sales increased rapidly, yet he got paid about 5% of what Nazeem was on and Frank would barely feature Eubank on the fight poster even

Fwank might have looked after Witter if he wasn't the same division as HATTON - but he is!

Witter is better off wth Hennessey, he wasted too much time with Fwank.

Yes in a tiny venue. Witter should have stayed with Warren because he would have fought more often and got bigger fights. If he fought Pinto he could have got the WBO and maybe gone on to face Cotto (who Pinto fought). If he got the WBO before Hatton fought Tyszu he may have even got his hands on Hatton back then.

Hindsight is 50-50 but Hennessey doesn t have the muscle to make anything happen

Witter is the WBC Champion and won the European under Hennessey.

Warren was smart - he put Witter in with some shit opponents when Ricky was Headlining in the UK but being shown on SHOWTIME, he knew Witter would not look good. He made him fight some South African based in Australia who was something like 5ft 2 and not very good.
Pinto? - of he won the belt was good for Witter and Warren if he loses,

GOOD - no more talk of fighting HATTON

Fwank could not lose!

He put him in with Bergman ( Witter won)

Threw him in with Judah before that and no doubt in the Hope that Witter got sparked and ruling him out of Hatton forever OR IF HE WON, he could fight the biggest money opponent out there and win or lose, Fwank wins.

Once RH left Fwank, then Witter would have got the treatment, but why would JW wait for that?

Witter is the World Champion and has no doubt earned more money with Hennessey than he did with Warren due to the European Defences and World Title Defences.

So, Witter did the right thing, imo.

No WBU for Junior.

Traditional all the way!

British
Commonwealth
European
World ( WBC!)

The boy done good.

If Waren can ensure him BIG PAYDAYS then go with him, but if he can not - why bother!

Hennessy is doing ok.

Witter WKO7 D- Hopkins
