I fancy David Price to make it, possibly Billy Joe Saunders if he gets a good draw and the same for either James DeGale or Darren Sutherland.

Interesting to see Joe Selkirk representing Wales!

Thanks Povetkin - I wasn't familiar with Arshba, but I see why he's another interesting entrant, having only lost to Timurziev 17-11 in the semis of the 2007 Russian Championships (and being a former European Junior Champion).

I found a very short article about the Azeri Championships, that says that the crowd attempted to attack the ring after Arshba beat Azer Mammadov. This was because Arshba had hit him after the break, but I wonder if there is resentment that Azerbaijan will be represented by a Dagestani. And I also wonder if we'll start to see more Russians popping up for various national teams.

No sign yet of the draw in Pescara.

This is the biggest day of the competition, with three sessions. I was interested by the 48kg draw, which has put Ayrapetyan, Bedak, Pinto, and Abiyev all in the same quad, while the top half of the draw is very open. Ayrapetyan and Bedak were also drawn in the same group in Chicago, and unless there is a better draw at the other Euro qualifier, there is a chance that one of the better European fighters at this weight will not qualify at all. Then again, this weight belongs more to the Pan Ams and Asians anyway.

Billy Joe is a class act.

I don't blame Selkirk going through Wales, he couldn't get a look in with Eng squad.

Pretty good win for Ross Hickey too. His side of the draw is not that tough, so he might be a nice story for Ireland. I expect McMonagle is going to have some trouble with Jaksto though. Arshba-Price should be an interesting matchup.

Does anyone know anything about the Austrian Gzim Tahiri? Pretty good results so far, for a guy I had never heard of.

Did Jaksto get KO'd at the Worlds? Agreed the guy has talent and pedigree but there must a small chance for Cathal

Evening session results (ring A and B)

Jerome Thomas lost by walkover, so things are getting a bit grim for him. At 64kg Piperski stopped Maharramov, which seems like a pretty big upset to me.

England are having some tournament - fair play to them - they are looking like they could have more Olympic qualifiers this year than any year I can remember.

again is there any TV coverage?

No real upsets, except I guess Tomasovic winning by WO.

This tournament qualifies 2 fighters at every weight except for 54,57,69, and 75, so tomorrow's losers at those weights will get a second chance to qualify.

Price losing looks like an upset to me. I never seen Arshba box before. He did not box in the '06 World Cup in Baku or in Chicago.

Arshba used to fight for Russia, so was blocked by Timurziev. As I mentioned in a post above, he narrowly lost to Islam in the semis of the 2007 Russian National Championships. This tournament is kind of an introduction to him on the world scene, and he's clearly got the goods.

91kg Zuyev d Subacius 19-9
91kg Usik d Alizade 24-9
91kg Price d Pavlidis 15-5

Some interesting results here - DeGale-Sutherland sounds like it was a cracker. Usik over Alizade is interesting, because Alizade easily took out Poyatsika in Chicago, so maybe Usik is just better. Szpilka is doing quite well - I think he's young and competed as a junior as recently as 2007.

No real upsets, except I guess Tomasovic winning by WO.
Price losing looks like an upset to me. I never seen Arshba box before. He did not box in the '06 World Cup in Baku or in Chicago.
