how much sponsorship should i ask for?
Make the letter sound like a Marketing Proposal, so it states what the company who sponsors you will get out of it:
i.e.
National TV Exposure with a certain Channel?
National Press with certain publications
Local Press?
Will reach a certain Type of Target customers i.e. Affluent Males who are into fitness between the ages of 25 - 45. (makle companies who target these types of people your first port of call i.e. local gym chains or musle building shops??)
PR Opportunities i.e. you'll go down to their factory and have photos taken for the local press.
VIP Tickets to the event. Sure you can get them a few tickets out of what they sponsor you or for free, plus a few extras to make them feel special on the evening.
It's all in the way you sell it and if you can big it up enough I reckon you could get a few thousand out of it.
I did the same thing for the local football club I manage and got £3 grand off a local restaraunt.
Post your letter before you send it and I'll have a look at it if you want.

Are Sky going to play the entire show, or just the final few bouts? I wouldn't be suprised if it was just highlights for the initial couple of fights.
Should be a couple of grand, five would be pushing it I would think for the name on the shorts. If you go to high I don't think you'll get a response, plus I wouldn't write because it will go in the bin,
Phone em up, ask to speak to the marketing manager. Without sounding racist, you'll find most business types are quite happy to be speaking to a Brit, because those call centres in India phone 8-10 times a day.
Royal Mail is shit also, and with 5 weeks to go your best bet is to phone.
Good luck.
If they sound interested at 2 grand, tell them it's plus weekly expenses at xxx amount - whatever you normally earn

billy.....
try local companies, perhaps look for 4 or 5 of them at around a grand a piece. write the letter, dont mention a figure, but mention that you need expenses to cover lost work revenue, training fees, transport, accomodation etc.
try and keep it at a local level, and as previously explained, tell them what they stand to gain from this, shit, its going out live on national sky sports tv for god sake.
are there any lads on this site who are in auspicious positions and able to offer you sponsorship?
write to hennessy sports and sports network, they might be pleased to have their name on your shorts on someone elses bill...
so, in summary, be prepared to have 4 or 5 badges on your kit, also approach local sports shops etc for sponsorship for boxing boots etc. i dont know any local produce from pompey apart from easy women who 'love it up em' ... my DNA is scattered round there for sure. long live emmas disco in gosport !!
PAL filters, i think they are from the gosport area !!

Someone from Everlast is in regular promotional contact with me Billy, I'm sure lots of others have had communication from them too, but if you want, I could put you in touch. Might help with kit etc?
Long shot but they ask me to review equipment to help promote it.

Has Colin still got his chicken factory and car sales sponsor? I know he did well from them so perhaps small local companies would help you? Fat Face is based in Havant? Perhaps small marketing agencies? Any company thats target market is a boxing fan would be silly not to take a punt on backing you, I would if I had the right company but I can't imagine too many boxing punters forking out for a trip on the QE2!billy bessey wrote:Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Have you asked Colin how much he's asking for?
Also, any update on tickets mate?
no news on the tickets yet
no i aint asked colin although he would probably like some he has got a decent job so i doubt he will be trying that hard to get any
