Gomez-Lear on big Edinburgh bill...

The British Board of Boxing Control have told Alex Arthur to forget about fighting for the British super-featherweight title he lost to Michael Gomez until he has explained his alleged illness before a special meeting in Glasgow.
Arthur says the loss of his title was partly down to an illness before the fight.
BBBC general secretary Simon Block said: "I'm amazed and amused at all this talk north of the border that seems to assume Alex Arthur will automatically be in the frame for a British title fight at Meadowbank in March.
"People seem to forget that Alex Arthur has been asked to appear in Glasgow before the Scottish area council to explain matters pertaining to his alleged illness before the Michael Gomez fight.
"Gomez has not vacated his title, but even if he does there is no guarantee Arthur would automatically fight for the British title."
Gomez is expected to challenge former conqueror Kevin Lear for the WBU super-featherweight title on the Arthur comeback bill on March 27 in Edinburgh. Graham Earl defends his British lightweight title against Bobby Vanzie on the same bill.

i think it may be a bit optimistic pencilling Lear in for end of march. That shoulder injury seems a bad one... has he had surgery yet??

Yes, he's had surgery, but then a specialist stated that if he continued fighting he would wind up virtually one-armed. Frank Maloney sought a second opinion, as far as I'm aware, and Lear must have been given the all-clear.
I must admit this fight seems a long shot to me as well. Lear is crazy to go in with Gomez again without testing the shoulder in a couple of warm-ups.

I dunno but I can't help but squint now when I think of Lear trying a big shot. I really hope he's got/will get this problem sorted.

IMO it seems abit weird to have Gomez-Lear fighting up in Scotland, as I do believe that Arthur could of sold out the arena on his own without the support of the WBU Super Featherweight Title.

Also, its a shame that Michael is dumping the British Title for the Worthless WBU one, but I guess thats all apart of the Business of Boxing :(

I do expect Gomez to take Lear to the races as Michael looked a cut above against Arthur and I can see him gaining revenge big time in this fight!

Lear has been stripped by the WBU.
Gomez is fighting Rees for the vacant title.
I assume Lear fights the winner.
This gives Lear time to make a 100% recovery, and get a warm up in.

Gomez is fighting Rees for the vacant WBU title??? I don't think this is wise, I was hoping Gomez vs Rees would have a more prestigious belt - WBO. Both are in the top 5 and the title is going vacant soon. If the IBF could sanction Johnson vs Woods for the full title (given Johnson's ranking position before the bout) then surely the Gomez vs Rees can at least be an eliminator or interim WBO title fight.
