Witters willing to take 30% which may still be abit high, but a career high-purse sounds good from Ray Hatton, but in reality.......
For someone who whinges a lot about politics in boxing, you're quick to use it when your man is being questioned.

FACE IT - Witter has turned down a career best purse to fight Hatton - A fight he has said many a time he would take for 150k

If Witter and his camp are so confident of an upset then why not take the short end and reap the rewards afterwards?

:TU:
Tinky Winky,

A career best purse that was most likely LESS than he would have got for fighting Hopkins??

It the Greedy Klan ( THe Hattons ) are serious then Witter should get at least £200k AT LEAST!!!!!

IN FAXCT - IF THE FIGHT GENERATES A PURSE OF £6M, Witter shouldmget at least £500k

Bottom line is - HATTOIN HE MAN OF THE PEOPLE should not concern himseolf with another mans purse.

This will all come back to bite Hatton.

Shameful they way they seem to gloat over money when most of his fans are ordinary working class people.

I would laugh if Witter pounched the midget Ray in the face then beat Hatton with a stick!

This is why Boxing makes me sick at times - the Politics.

The WBC should make Hatton number 1 contender for the WBC.

What fighter would turn down a shot at the WBC Belt? It would crack me up if HBO demanded it - but they won't!
Junior is a very popular fighter (just look at this place), he is established, he has the most prestigious title and he has a huge following, plus he is coming off a hugw win (all factors that led to Hatton going to HBO). Surely HBO are about to offer Witter a deal?

The promised land is coming DG :TU:

I hope it is - Witter deserves it!

What kinf od mesage is HAtton showing Kids wanting to come into the sport?

DO YOUR BEST - WIN TITLES AND STILL BE FCUKED OVER BY POLITICS!

Hatton is scum and so is his dad.

The promised land, ahhhh - the promised land!

COME ON HBO!!!

I would like Lazcano to be injured and HBO to turn down every other fighter except Witter... Hatton would piss himself!!

Someone pay Lazcano a visit and 'cough cough - ASK him to step down!

SPECULATION over Ricky Hatton's future will be put to bed in the coming weeks when he puts pen to paper on a three-fight deal with American pay-per-view giants HBO.

"He still wants to prove himself over there," said the Hitman's father and manager, Ray.

"Some people have said the Americans aren't interested, but HBO want him to sign a multi-fight deal."

They are not the only ones who want to be in the Hatton business, with Wembley eager to have the biggest draw in British boxing perform beneath the arch.

That is unlikely to be in May, when the Hyde-based Ring and IBO light-welterweight champion is expected to opt for an emotional homecoming at the City of Manchester Stadium for his return to the ring against Juan Lazcano.

Wembley, however, remains very much in Hatton's plans, depending on how it can work alongside the HBO contract.

But whether in Manchester, London, Las Vegas or New York, it is clear the 29-year-old has no imminent plans to retire, despite his defeat by Floyd Mayweather last December.

Rather, Hatton is determined to cement his place as the world's finest light-welterweight and one of the greatest in the history of the sport by taking on the biggest names in the division.

That could mean a potential Madison Square Garden fight against IBF champion Paulie Malignaggi, with whom Hatton's camp are in advanced talks to feature on the undercard of the Lazcano fight.

"The next fight has got to be in America and HBO want us to fight an American," said Ray. "Whoever we get on the under card, will be his next opponent in America. We are well down the road with Malignaggi at this moment."

That is bad news for WBC champion Junior Witter, who has so publicly tried to force a fight with the Hitman.

And while Hatton refuses to dismiss an all-British encounter, he remains furious at Witter's media campaign to pressure him into a bout.

Most recently the Bradford fighter offered to take just 30 percent of any potential purse - but Hatton's camp insist that even on those terms, he is still pricing himself out of the biggest fight of his career.

"We offered Junior Witter his highest purse he'd ever had," said Ray of previous negotiations with the 33-year-old.

"If someone offered Ricky that, I'd be insulted. But as far as Junior Witter was concerned, it was his biggest purse.

"It is unfortunate, but you are getting a fighter who has not captured the public's imagination. Most others would say they could live with what we offered. He can't say this, that and the other and then refuse the offer.

"We've taken that back now. It's gone. Now he wants 30 percent of everything that comes with a Ricky Hatton fight?"

The selection of Lazcano was a combination of honouring a previous agreement, as well as taking on one of the top contenders in the IBO rankings.

Though Witter is first in line, ranked number two, his fight with Demetrius Hopkins next month, rules him out of another so soon after in May.

Hatton beat number-three ranked Jose Luis Castillo last June, leaving 32-year-old Texan, Lazcano in the frame.

The pair were supposed to meet two years ago, only for California-based Lazcano to break his hand. He has won 37 of his 42 fights, including 27 knockouts.

It must be frustrating for Witter now more than ever. It seems Ricky has no plans to face Junior whatsoever. Ray Hatton states Witter had previously been offered his highest purse to date, but when was that offer made?

Witter has shown how serious he is about making the bout by declaring he doesn't mid Ricky having the lions share of the purse. What more can Junior do?

I'm a fan of Ricky's, but at some stage, he's going to have to decide for definately, if he is to box Witter or not. If he chooses to not fight Junior at all, then wherever Hatton goes, Witter's name will always come up.

I feel sorry for Witter because I think he's avoided by other fighers. Not just one, but a few perhaps. I guess all Witter can do is keep plugging away, keep winning 7 hopefully, opportunities will come along for him.

Witter has not got time on his side though!
oh, the Hatton's are such down to earth humble people..

Hatton obviously knows if he came out and said this everyone would think he was an absolute pudendum and it would completely ruin his 'man of the people' persona, so thats why he's got his dad doing the dirty work. Whatever happened to wanting the big fights and the glory? Its all about the money.
"We've taken that back now. It's gone. Now he wants 30 percent of everything that comes with a Ricky Hatton fight?"
30% is unreasonable for a world champion to ask? In that case it would seem that even his team know that Ricky Hatton taking 80/90% of the purse is down to hype rather than boxing ability or merit. It would be interesting to see what Lazcano and Mallignaggi are asking for.

Junior just does not the pull of the crowd that Hatton does and that is why he will never get a HBO deal.

Hardcore boxing fans know who Witter is, but you ask Joe Public and they haven't got a clue. Everyone knows who Hatton is, and HBO obviously recognise this, and that is why he has been offered this deal.

But IMO I do think it will be a shame that Hatton WILL NEVER fight Witter.

a witter fight would generate a shit load more money than lazaroo or wateva the fook he is called

why dont they let witter have the difference between what the two fights would generate in tv & gate admission - cause i think every boxing fan in uk would pay to see it but not many are interested in anything else

i dont fall for this US hate witter cause of judah bullshit, no one remembers an undercard fight from 8 years ago

only hatton v's ODH/PBF/Cotto/Malinagga(usa only for mallinaga) would generate more cash than a fight v's witter

so in reality witter can draw a crowd - more than lazaroo anyway

You may be correct, but I wonder what the actual figure of the offer was made to Witter? Ok, so we know Witter would not be the draw in a bout with Hatton, but there's offering a guyb his highest purse & there's making an offer that is basically saying "I don't want to fight you"!

Until we know the figure/s offered to Witter, we cannot make a judgement whether the offer was serious or just a insulting one.

Hatton-Witter has to happen this year, which looks increasingly unlikely, or it will not hapen at all in my view. I have no doubt Ricky will retire before hte end of 2009, perhaps sooner. I guess it depends on what he perofrms like, wins or loses, level of motivation, etc, etc.

I'm a fan of Hatton's, & some might not like it when I say I think if he chooses not to face Witter & the fight does not happen, it will be a negative on Ricky's boxing career, definately not a positive.

If the bout doesn't happen, Witter's name will be mentioned to Ricky long into his retirement. In years to come we will all be probably saying "what if"?

Options may have been part of it!

If there is £5m in the pot then Witter should get at least £500K but if he s offered £70K after tax it is about £30k.

As for the Porsche, I GUARANTEE you will never be able to afford even the wheels, not unless Income support has really gone up!

Incorrect, he was Euro champ.

So in your view, Witter shouldn't take the risk for anything less than 30% of a proposed purse - Considering he has got nothing on the table other than a strap that no one seems to want to fight him for, I personally feel he should grab the chance.

No but if the Hattons were making a serious offer they would:

1. Make a Press Release 100% about the offer to side step critiscism
2. Claim Witter was ducking the fight and was all talk

Hatton won't fight Witter even if Witter offers to take the fight for free

In all fairness and all bias aside for 1 of the hardest fights of either fighters career that could permanently damage either man both should be well compensated.

Witter should take less than 30% but more than 150k. The fights probably worth £6-8m and if thats the case Witter should take £500k-£1m with the rest going to Hatton.
