TYSON VERSUS FERGUSON

Post by joeyatwal »

i remember watching mike tyson fight jesse ferguson, and in ur database it says he lost due to a TKO, but i remember it being a DQ from excessive holding, and failing to break teh holds after numerous warnings from the referee....

It was a TKO due to excessive holding. The ref interpreted the holding as Ferguson being unable to continue fighting. The fact that Tyson was on a knockout streak might have something to do with the ref's judgement.

The official ruling was changed after the TV broadcast, wasn't it?

yes, by jose torres, then commissioner in new york. this information really needs to be re-added (it used to be there) to clear things up for people coming to this site for information.

ferguson disqualified for what was deemed 'excessive' holding by the ref, however the decision was overturned to TKO by jose torres to keep tysons knockout streak alive.

bad decision by the ref, disgraceful behaviour from torres.
