This is the biggest fight in his career and one of the biggest in recent British Boxing History.

That should lead to he him being rewarded appropriately! Any other argument is pointless.

there is every reason to make this fight. british world champions, "unification" (if you count the rag belt hatton has that lets him do what he wants), and - most importantly - there is severe needle between the two sides. there seems to be none with haye and enzo, who are about to drop bombs on each other. but there seems to be some real malice when it comes to hatton and witter.

hatton, i am sad to say, has been exposed a couple of times now. my old theory was that it was southpaws with right hooks he couldn't fight...witter has proven himself a good, genuinely world class fighter. the whole situation has gone beyond reasonable.

30% of the purse would represent a whopping payday for Witter, more than he's ever likely to earn, unless of course he beats Hatton and becomes a genuine star.

I think Witter needs to accept, whether fair or not, than economically, he is the opponent in this, despite having the belt. Hatton is the marketable star, and represents the cash cow.

Having said that, I am fully in agreement that Hatton's avoidance of Witter is becoming rather distasteful, and that it is to the benefit of boxing as a whole, and retrospectively to Hatton's career should he take it.

Witter, like Froch and Thaxton is spending too much time shouting about who he isn't fighting and not worrying about the fact that he isn't fighting at all. These 3 are wasting the best years of their lives (financially speaking) by not fighting.

Spoke to someone very close to this situation, here is what really happened....

Hatton’s camp never ever made an offer for Witter to fight Hatton!

Witter’s promoter called the Hatton lawyer on Saturday Feb 16th,
Only to find him pissed out of his brains in a Las Vegas bar at five thirty in the morning. Apparently Mick offered to meet Ray Hatton and the lawyer the following week, the lawyer went on to say "I am telling you now if we meet Ricky holds all the Aces and if they ever do fight the most Witter would be offered was 100,000 pounds. Because nobody gives a eff about Witter and he brings eff all to the table".
There was never a specific date or a specific offer, just a drunken comment about what would be offered if they ever did meet.

Mick told him not to disrespect a great fighter like Witter, who has done things the hard way and has never turned down a challenge from anyone. Needless to say the conversation went downhill from there.

Then the Hatton’s and that lawyer chose to take that drunken pissed up bar room conversation and flog it to the media and public as if they made a legitimate offer and it was refused by Witter’s camp.

What a load of absolute shite!!!
To make a genuine offer you put it in writing and send it through by Fax, it’s that simple!

If you could hear the rumors going around the U.S. at the moment about what happened that particular night and the following afternoon with this big-mouthed lawyer,
