Is Ricky Not allowed a comeback Fight ?

Post by TJAY »

If Steve Forbes is good enough for Oscar surely Lucano is for Ricky.
Everybody has seemed to forget that Junior Witter had a soft touch as his first defence Arturo Morua 24-7 -1 wow that fight raised the roof.
Then Vivian Harris who Had beaten Lucano on pts now if Lucano is that bad an opponent for a comeback then doesnt Juniors win over Harris lose its shine as Harris was equally shot.
Rickys first defence Carlos Maussa the man who beat a fresher Harris in the same time as Junior.
Other popular fighters from Britian in the past have after losing a world title fight had Mediocre comeback fights
Barry Mcguigans comeback opponent after losing to steve cruz was Nicky Perez 57-15-1.won ko4 Barry did not comeback against Azumah Nelson and his profile never suffered because of it and that was after Azumah calling Barry out on live tv saying he crys or fights like a woman something along them lines.
Frank Brunos was James tillis 36-11-1 after Witherspoon won ko5 Defeat after Tyson 1 it was John Emmen 16 -2 won ko1.
Nigel Benn after Micheal Watson defeat beat jorge Amparo 7-9-1 won pts Then after Eubank Loss it was Robbie Simms 32-8-2 wko7.
LLoyd Honeyghan after losing To jorge Vaca then avanged his loss to Vaca in next fight but when he lost his title to Marlon Starling his comeback opponent was Delfino Marin 11-3 won pts.
By the way Juniors comeback opponent after losing to Zab was Steve Conway 20-3 Wko 4

So why are people so Keen for Ricky to buck the trend Barry , Frank , Nigel and Lloyd were household names and it was acknowledged that the comeback fight was a confidence booster.
If it was the other way round do you think for one minute Junior after getting Knocked out would fight Ricky in his comeback fight like hell he would.
Instead of Mick Hennessey Junior Witter and John Ingle harping on , Why dont they Spend some of that £400 Grand that they had to put on Thaxton V Khan and spend it on Junior and get a name from America , Mexico over here and put it on ITV that would do Junior more good for Profile and activity then silly he said she said stories.

Hatton's whole career has been a tune up bar KT and PBF.

On one hand he says HE WANTS TO FIGHT THE BEST AT 140LBS.

On the other hand he Chooses LAZCANO last foiught 15 months ago nand LOST and is a lightweight really.

MAliginnnnaaggggnnngggiigii Feather fisted and nlost his last fight really.

And Pacman... One tme Superflyweight and Superfeather -Lightweight.

No tune up.

WITTER.

Jermain Taylor was MASHED down.Hwe went STRAIGHT back in.

I THINK ( Not sure) Mosley was mashed down my Forret and went STRAIGHT back in.

I suppose the difference is JT and SM are real fighters?

Witter or retire - tats my take.

ALSO - AFTER FIGHTING THE BEST IN THE WORLD - ANYONE IS A TUNE UP!

But his next fight after the 'comeback' fight (against yet another Columbian reject or whatever) will be next year, FFS. And that won't be Witter, either.

This shit has been going on too long.

how about a "Go Back" fight? If America are so desperate for charisma, maybe Hatton could perhaps not fight at all (Americans like CLEAN action), and instead do voice overs or something.

Hatton is fighting Pappa Lazaroo, then Malinaggi, then from what I've been lead to believe, Pacman (provided he comes through a lightweight fight with David Diaz later this year okay).

Hatton is due to gimme fight after getting KTFO to "The fighter of the decade". Any boxing trainer of any value will be looking to get his fighter in with an easy opponent to bolster their confidence.

The Forbes v DLH fight is an interesting comparison (Hatton's opponent is far better in comparison to DLH). That said, DLH v Forbes is on HBO CB (not PPV) whereas Hatton's might. If so, the Hatton fight is an unfair matchup.

I personally feel the Malinaggi fight is a good matchup for Ricky, but would far prefer the Witter fight given my British biased. Junior still needs another decent fight to really prove himself as the #2 in the division. Sorry guys, a win against Harris doesn't make him #2 yet, I see him as joint second with Paulie.

Given the details in the other thread, if what's been said is true about the phone call, I don't think he will ever fight Junior now. Which is a real shame, but it won't be the first time that a decent fight has never been made. Even a domestic one at that.

Are we really gonna go on about this for the rest of our lives? Are Herol Graham fans still smarting? I hope note for everybody's blood pressure.

Anyway, that's my 1 pence on the matter. Take it or leave it.

I have no problem with Lazcano, so long as he agrees to fight Witter, which he simply will not do.

Hatton is doing everything in his power to avoid Witter, as far as I can see from the reams of guff that are being spouted by both sides.

I'm sick of talk, this fight has to happen.

Calzaghe at least had the stones to fight both Lacy and Kessler, both high risk fights, and those confirmed him as the best 140 lber in the world. It took a long time, but now he gets to cash in and batter old man Hopkins.

It looks to me like Hatton is going to feed of everyone but Witter, and then claim to be the best 140 lb fighter ever, without any real claim to do so.

I used to be the biggest Hatton fan out there, but I'm becoming rather dissapointed in him and his team. Money seems to be all that matters, pride, honour, all of those things, seem to be flying out the window.

Forbes is ia very good fighter!

Remember 0 he beat D-Hop in most peoples eyes!

Hatton Vs Forbes is a good fight anf one that Ricky would have lots of chances to get outslicked!

Lazcano is INACTIVE.

Hatton should just take a back seat and then retire.

Good riddance to him.

TJAY has posted a genuine thread with some reasonable arguement - Yet people like you and in particular shit for brains DG ignore it.

Or maybe you guys simply can't comprehend how to debate the point being raised - I'm starting to think that's more the case actually.

I totall agree, James (don't feint  ). I've been there since the Tszyu days (I couldn't afford it before then!) and even went to see him in Vegas at the cost of several thousand for a ticket.

Now that he's tasted "American fight money" I just can't see him:

a) fighting here again after Lazaroo
b) caring more about glory than money

I remember you and I having a debate about money versus glory a while back, but I will say this; once you've accumulated the level of money that Hatton has, where does it all end?! At some point you should say "enough is enough" and make the fights that will cause critics of your legacy to shut up.

I used to enjoy this forum but this stuff is daft. I can't believe people critisise Hatton for not fighting Witter in his next fight.

Hatton's last two fights have been against top draw opponents. He's just suffered his first defeat and got pretty comprehensively battered. Very few fighters in those circumstances don't have a slightly easier fight to build up confidence. Hamed Calvo anyone?

I don't have a problem with him fighting Maggiwhatever this year although I do think Witter is a better fighter than him. If Witter keeps winning then Hatton Witter will happen as it should. I'm a fan of Witter and think he's a good chance against Hatton but his promoter has got to get him fights so he's then in a position to get the Hatton fight.

What is this HBO, anyway?

I see the banner at Calzaghe and Hatton fights and the logo after episodes of Sopranos.

Is it some special US TV station?

Forbes was 3-rounds at a time in sparring with the guy and claimed he was feeling the strength disparity in those sessions. It would not be a good fight for Forbes who is a different kind of slick.

As long as Hatton is with HBO he will fight HBO friendly fighters. If Witter's HBO chance is now gone, bear in mind HBO turned down some good names for Junior's bout, then both men will take different paths.

I think Forbes was just saying what he thought he had to say. Sparring partner etc etc.

Also - Forbes fought at Light Middle in the contender or was it Welter?

I think he was being KIND to Hatton with those comment.

Ricky has NOT just found himself in being in a position where the demand is high. Hatton set his stall out as an amateur years and years ago and produced a style that has built up a massive following.

In PBF, Hatton challenged a boxer that Witter could never even dream of being as good as. Despite what's being written, Hatton is not afraid of a tough fight....it's ludicrous to suggest as much just because because he has yet to face Witter.

there is nothing to lose when fighting the best on the planet but plenty to lose when fighting someone of a simerlar level

if hatton said the risk reward factor isnt too steep for me to fight witter then fair enough - but he doesnt he would fight him cause he didnt have a belt and know its cause he doesnt want to give him a pay day

it does stink abit
