Just wondering are these boxers sticking around in the amateurs or going pro?

Hatley and Porter will be going pro in the next few months.

Rico Ramos and Miguel Gonzalez both boxed in the USA v. England dual. As did Porter. I believe both Ramos and Gonzalez will be pro within the next 6 months.

So Shawn Porter will be turning pro? Is he going to go to Nationals and Golden Gloves one last time, or just turn pro before then?

My understanding is that his win at the World Golden Gloves would be his last amateur bout. Several of the guys there said that it was going to be their last amateur bouts before turning pro. I can't say for sure which ones other than Hatley and Porter. Shabazz - maybe. Rios - maybe. Solomon - I think so.

Just keep in mind that plans do sometimes change. I have known boxers who planned on turning pro, but something happens and then they decide to stay amateur for one more tourney or one more year. I have also known boxers who planned on staying amateur for another year and then all of a sudden they have their pro debut.

That's true. But it sure is becoming evident what you and others were saying before the Trials-there certainly seems to be a lot of guys turning pro now that the Trials are over.

That is the case every Olympic cycle. Boxers stay amateur in the hopes of making the Olympic team. As soon as they don't make the Olympic Team, many turn pro. As you maybe noticed, there were many who turned pro this spring or early summer once they didn't make the US Championships. Then more turned pro when they didn't make it to the Trials. Then more turned pro when they didn't win the Trials. There are still many who are going to turn pro, but are just waiting to sign with a manager and/or promoter or are just waiting for their pro debut. Many amateurs decide to turn pro, but then need months to get ready for the pro game. There are differences so it is smart to make sure the boxer is ready to start his pro career before he actually does.

So Edwin Rodriguez successfully made his pro debut last night, winning by TKO in 1; Danny Jacobs won his TV debut with a stoppage as well, in his second fight.

I was told Pagan may fill in for Ali if he's not allowed in the qualifiers, and that he's competing in the NY GG.

I would have thought it would have been Gonzales. He was the runner up at the olympic trials and he has competed in the last two international duals I believe.

Would they even replace Ali or would USA boxing just leave 132 ilbs without a representative? Not sure how it works

That is the problem with the current qualifying process. If we qualified countries instead of individual boxers, it wouldn't be such a dilemna.

And most countries would be playing switcharoo until the last minute. What a nightmare that would be!!!

Any replacement for Ali should be the silver medalist at the Trials - unless said medalist turns it down.
