I dont think he is particularly big headed, especially considering he is a fighter. He comes across quite well in general terms.

If you remember Joe Cal early in his career - now there was a fighter who turned fans off with his arrogant, big headed attitude. Latterly Joe has dropped the pseudo-American bull5hit and is a far more likeable fellow as a result.

The reason I really rate Haye is because of his old school attitude of wanting to fight the best, and never looking for the 'path of least resistance'

Haye's attitude is refreshing and it is for this reason I want to see him win at the wkend.

C'mon Haye!

I agree. If I was an undispute champion in a weight division, good looking and rich, I'd have a Tefal head!

Boxing is largely devoid of characters, with exciting fighting styles who always want to test themselves or put on fights that the punters want to see.

David Haye should be saluted & I for one would never criticise him or anybody of that ilk.

haye is a throwback fighter willing to fight anyone, thats why i'm a big fan, he also happens to be one of the friendliest guys in boxing today.

A 180kg bench press is 400 fornicating lbs. That's insane for anyone, let alone a non-heavyweight draining weight.

Depends if it's 1RM, or a set mate. I'm about 160 and can bench 1RM of 150KG so I'm hoping he means 10 reps at that weight, which sounds bout right.

The man in the street couldn't bench the bar (20kg) for five reps, mate.

Don't get me wrong, I've benched 3 plates a side (140kg) before now (with a bounce).

But for a boxer in boxing training (who runs quarter-marathons every day, etc), that's immense. I would bet that no heavyweight boxer in history has benched that.

Rahman is known for being able to bench press 500 lbs...that didnt prevent him from struggling against Zuri Lawrence and Taurus Sykes, 2 extremely light punching HWs...

But his height gives him greater muscle mass for benching (his pecs will have a larger area than someone 5ft11).

Height and arm length don't necessarily go hand in hand. Williams and Hearns both have/had freakish arms for their Height. Heanrs is the same height as me, but had at least 5 inches in reach more than me.

True. Stepinfetchit/Simpsons ( the retard who posts on here) has a 107 inch reach and he is 5ft 2.

Why do you find It Immense a HW could bench 179kg?

I could understand maybe with the lighter weights but not Heavyweights.

I guess It's impressive for someone who Is badly starved a week or so before the fight though but not a full healthy heavyweight.

definitely, he could be absolutely tactless at times. the Calzaghes also had a real go at Colin Jones, pretty much saying he'd achieved nothing, after Jones criticised how his career was going. Calzaghe's very very good, but it's not like he's had to face a Don Curry level fighter (Jones) or defend against someone of Alexis Arguello's calibre (as Watt had to)!

As for the bench-press: 180's worryingly impressive for a drained performance. I have a friend who's an ex-amateur, and despite walking around at the cruiser limit, he 'only' benches a little over 100. He's still got great power though. An older brother's a bit heavier and lifts mid-120s, but again - his straight right is genuinely scary.

I can't remember who it was - although he's not a big name, an American middleweight, was boasting of benching close to 140 a couple of years ago. (Pretty sure it was someone from the US version of The Contender.)

Yeah, he's definately taken PR lessons from De La Hoya or someone. It was only constructive criticism they were offering also. Not like they didn't rate Calzaghe or respect him, just said he needed to alter his ways or he would lose. I know Jim said he needed to leave Enzo Calzaghe, which proved wrong and I'm sure could have offended Joe personally and proffesionally - but he was only offering his opinion in which he thought he could better his career.

The Calzaghes were definitely open to criticisim from 98-2005. Taking right hand after right hand vs Reid and Woodhall (should he leave Enzo? good question). Not fighting anyone of worth through 2004 and 2005 (is Joe avoiding good opponents cos he thinks he'll lose?). The # of below par performances vs lesser opponents, inability to blow out guys like Giminez Ferrya...

I recall the good old Sky days, with Ian Darke saying "Calzaghe needs a good performance this time, like the Eubank fight" during just about every title fight before Sheika, etc

ok, they answered the questions, but it took a lot of time and they can't just think we were all out of order for wondering all this time.

It surely helps enormously when you win public acclaim from challenging the big names. When Calzaghe was disliked he couldn't impress against most mandatories, nor did he want to risk everything for minimal credit.

Haye gives up weight and promotional advantage to make a fight people want to see and one he could loose. Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe are arrogent because they are more interested in preserving there carrers and fighting bums than giving the fans what they want.

i consider it to be supreme confidence and not big headedness, haye talks the talk and walks the walk...someone like audley just talked the talk (from a professional boxers perspective of course !!)

haye has managed to fight all comers because he has always remained partly in control of his own destiny, he has had no long term contracts with promoters and therefore has not been spoon fed tomato cans !

i admire the route david has taken, and i just dont think that enzo sack-of-spaghetti will be able to take the power.

is maccarinelli any better than gurov ?? im not sure !!
