He needs to fight a quality opponent soon, all is the plan to fight Pavlik and get stopped and retire.

Lockett's decent but If he fights Pavlik then he needs to stop tuning up on journeymen as he can win at least a Euro title.

Lockett would get smashed by Pavlik. Not sure Frank would be too keen on putting Lockett in that one, Arthur has more chance of beating Guzman.

Even if he gets a shot at a vacant title, you have to worry that he has gone stale after fighting journeymen for so long

Don't know if you have heard but lockett was on the first BBN podcast and came across really well, and has his feet firmly on the ground when it comes to the chance of him fighting Pavlik or Winky Wright

Arum has stated the 4 names in the frame for a summer fight against Pavlik are WBO mandatory challenger Lockett, his WBC counterpart Giovanni Lorenzo, Mexican puncher Marco Antonio Rubio and American Randy Griffin.

With Rubio looking the most likely to get the nod.

Not so sure about that, Frank will know that Pavlic will never have heard of Lockett, and assume he's going to be any easy Euro pushover....but he'll be in for a serious shock if Lockett lands on him - if nothing else, the Welshman looks to have world class power in both hands - a real natural born puncher. Gary gts hit too much, but he has a decent chin as well.

Could be a bit like when another Welsh puncher was sent over to the USA to take on an American hot shot for a world title - and big favorite Milton McCrory had a massive shock when the unknown Colin Jones hit him on the chin.

And Guzman is a much better fighter than Pavlik - AA doesn't have that get out of jail punch either, he's got no chance.

Locketts down for an 8 rounder in March.

Lockett is as good as Duddy. Just lacks the names on resume, IMO.

Lockett would spark Duddy out easy, journeymen don't find Duddy that hard to hit.

ha, I said on the current forum last week that Rubio might get the job on the strength of his recent win over faded Zertuche. Hope it happens so that I get to look like a genius.

Arum wants Pavlik to fight regularly, another 3 times this year. Hopefully he fights 3 of the 4 through 2008. Beating Grififn who has a draw with Sturm will be a nice result. Taking care of the 2 mandatories will be a good move as well.

I can't see American TV accepting Locket as a opponent for Pavlik and wanting more of a name that the American public would more familiar with. I heard Lockett is fighting Darren Rhodes next which i hope isn't true. Lockett needs a harder test and fighting a similar style to Sebastian Zbik just incase that fight is made if Pavlik gives up the title or some interim Gimmick comes into play.

definitely. hope Abraham and promoter are up for it. I'd think they'd stall for a while, at least until Pavlik is nearly dead at the weight. I think Abrham has some class but seems to have workrate issues. Also, that Miranda bout has some thinking that perhaps AA was exposed a bit.

But it would be a great puncher v puncher event.

IMO Gary has a chance with anyone in the world, he has great power and a wicked jab, and with the fitness from Enzo you cant write him off.

He does look a decent fighter but I think Warren and Enzo Cal would rather Pavlik give up the WBO for Lockett and face Joe in a big money fight.

Agree , Gary Lockett would KO Duddy inside 5 rounds .. IMO

sorry, i worded that badly. i meant pavlik give lockett the WBO and then pavlik go on to fight calzaghe

they just might do. arum is not in contract with any TV company. that way, pavlik can fight whenever arum wants him to and has a choice of TV outlets to sell it to. i think he could fight smaller fights on the Versus network or on ESPN, etc & save the heavy duty stuff for HBO.
