Arthur/Guzman in Edinburgh
Boxrec sked has just changed the fight from a generic taking place in UK to taking place in Edinburgh.
Anyone know anything about this? Frank's plans were Glasgow or London I thought. Edinburgh is not a great seller, and given the fight is not 100% watertight (is Guzman fully committed? Will he make the weight?) then I would have thought putting him on somewhere where a decent co-main could fill the void would have been the thing to do. World boxing coming to you from Meadowbank could be imroved upon, I'm sure :P

I went to Soto v Guzman, trust me, he's the real deal. His lateral movement reminds me a lot of Floyd Jr.TerribleTerry wrote:If Guzman IS over rated, he isnt THAT over rated.glahn wrote:Guzman is good... but overrated. Amazing Alex has simply no chance whatsoever.
Floyd Sr has really improved him.

How long has Sr trained him? He looked Mayweather-esque against Barrios and I dont think he was supposed to be training him then. I remember watching him before hearing . the thing is Sr trys to turn everyone into FMJ, Guzman may have the tools to handle to style thoughEmerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:I went to Soto v Guzman, trust me, he's the real deal. Soto and Barrios were both top5 fighters when Guzman beat them and looked in a different league doing so. Thats why Pacquiao is ducking him, he'd dominate Pacquiao and Marquez for my money
Not that long. I thought since the Davis fight, but might be wrong. I honestly think Guzman is a slightly lesser Floyd at 130, just without Floyd's power. His resume doesn't get the respect it deserves.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:How long has Sr trained him? I think he'd beat Pacman, but would lose to Marquez (I have Marquez UD for the 15th).

I think Arrum knows something we don't about Marquez, I certainly don't think Marquez is the same fighter he was around 2003/2004 and he is ofcourse hitting his mid-30s.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Not that long. If there was a instant rematch back then Marquez would have taken the UD but now I'm not so sure
Arrum isn't stupid yet, he knows how good Marquez is yet he is looking past Marquez at David Diaz and Ricky Hatton.
OH and if its slightly close on the cards (ie Marquez wins 8rounds) then Pacquaio gets the judges decision. Arrum won't lose money on Marquez winning
I agree with Guzman being very similar to Floyd albeit not quite so good, but he is more exciting. I think his natural talent would be too much for Marquez too

Win, lose or draw against Juan Manuel Marquez on March 15, at junior lightweight Filipino boxing great Manny Pacquiao is headed up in weight. Promoter Bob Arum already has Pacquiao pencilled in to challenge WBC lightweight world champion David Diaz in the new gabbling strip of Macau in China on June 21. A win there might then see him head to junior welterweight to face Ricky Hatton.
I watched the extended conclusion (i.e. not just 'the punch') of Buchanan-Duran the other day for the first time since I was a kid. I'd been brought up with the story of Duran as a machine who would have got Buchanan sooner or later, legitimately.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:I have a hatred of Buchanan as I'm a Duran fan.overhand_right wrote:Eh? Better than Ken Buchanan beating Ismael Laguna??
Very interesting and I disagree (without having scored the full fight - someone can maybe tell me what the cards were like).
Duran was definitely trying to bully and outstrength Buchanan and wasn't making a dent in the Jock whatsoever. Duran had a real go at roughing him up and not only did Buchanan give him some back, he backed him up and definitely seemed the stronger.
Then Duran did make a dent - in Buchanan's cup.

Arthur's Las Vegas crew split on Guzman outcome
The Scotsman
By BRIAN DONALD
EDINBURGH boxer Alex Arthur's hopes of becoming WBO super-featherweight champion have been rated 50/50 by the men helping him prepare for his May 3 clash with Joan Guzman.
Interim champion Arthur is currently training in Las Vegas ahead of his Meadowbank showdown with title holder Guzman of the Dominican Republic.
And he revealed today how his American-based sparring partners are split over whether he can snatch the title away next month.
Said Arthur: "I've now settled in fine with Irish ex-world champion Wayne McCullough and, after some hard sparring sessions with top Americans, they've revealed that they are split 50/50 on whether I will beat Guzman and take his title.
"To be truthful, some have told me, bluntly, that I won't beat him but others have told me that I can and will beat Guzman because they've never been hit with as hard a body shot as my trademark left hook to the body.
"And, even a couple of the pro-Guzman guys admitted that my left hook to the body was the kind of punch that could be decisive in helping me shock Guzman, who probably hasn't been hit by anything like it in his past fights.
"The weather has been really warm and this has helped me in my stamina training and weight regulation strategies, although I'd like to repeat there is no chance of me – after three weeks working out in the Red Rock mountains – having the weight-making problems that left me drained and listless before my fight with Steve Foster back in December when the Scottish winter cramped the style of my normal training regime.
"I won't be making that error again so Guzman better not be banking on meeting a weight and stamina-drained Alex Arthur on May 3

Do you think he landed? Although Ken has always said he did, and Roberto said he didn't, I just cannot tell from the angle I've got on my version of the fight.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:I watched the extended conclusion (i.e. not just 'the punch') of Buchanan-Duran the other day for the first time since I was a kid. May 3rd has been confirmed as the date for Arthur vs Guzman at Medowbank.
Im sure he will be in better shape than he was against Foster , cause he looked terrible that day. Lets face it hes gonna hav to do better than that performance.
Cant see him winning.............but anythings possible in boxing. lol
