Do you write under a pen name? Or do you have a different surname to your brother? I can't remember seeing your name in print.bennie wrote:Some of my stuff gets picked up (and I thus make a few quid). Incidentally, just watching the 15th and final round of Holmes-Berbick on youtube yesterday, 10 years before the infamous Holmes car jump; Holmes must have said something to Berbick at the final bell because Mills Lane jumps in front of Berbick.overhand_right wrote:Bennie, do you ever contribute in normal conversation? This weird 'press clipping' manner of yours is very unnerving.
Clearly, the two never got on.

The question is, in a boxing magazine, do you write about the boxer, or the man in general?jamesmcdonnell wrote:My take is, I have no problem.
It's a reality, it's the brutality of life, why NOT show it?
The nature of the game is such that there are many, many boxers who have lived less than perfect lives (as well as some wonderful people) and I think as a rule that magazines deal with the sportsman rather than the person - reference the recent death of "Chico" Corrales, who had had his less than stellar moments outside of the ring. Printing a photograph of Berbick's corpse - well, it seems pretty incongruous to me.
(I'm assuming that it was the only photo of the man printed - sorry if I'm wrong on that point)

yeah got that fight.bennie wrote:Berbick and Holmes clashed for real in 1981 in a 15-rounder. Holmes was probably at his peak but couldn't dent the stocky Berbick and copped the challenger's big left hook a few times. But Larry well won on points in a battle of sour types.
berbick is well pumped up for it.
berbick keeps wanting to square up to holmes at the end of rd's. poor mills lane gets tossed aside by berbick after one of the rds.
