Boxing in the UK has three stars that have recognition outside the sport.
1. Khan
2. Hatton
3. Calzaghe
(in that order!)
If Haye manages to win tonight, I think the Golden Three will become the Golden Four. The reasonings include being the undisputed CW champion, an imminent move upto HW and should he win- the btchslpng he'll give to Warren.
Anybody agree? Disagree? I can't see any other boxer (unless we have success at Beijing 08 ) being able to fill the fourth place for a while!
I dunno, even if Haye wins I don't think he'll be that well known as the fight isn't on terrestrial. I'd even say Froch might be ahead of him if he beats Inkin.
Calzaghe winning the BBC award really helped his notoriety. In fact a lot of arm chair fans I know before that thought him and Enzo Maccaroni were the same fighter!

I'm talking about name recognition amongst the entire population of the UK. Not sporting merit, not amongst sport fans and not amongst boxing fans. Khan is easily the highest profile boxer in the UK. If you can't see that you're crazy!
It'll be interesting to see how the public react to Carl Froch if he beats Inkin well live on ITV - millions will be watching and a big win on the big stage could catapult Froch onto another level
Froch and Murray - both come across very well when they talk, both have action styles. Inkin is going to take it to Froch and if Froch unleashes one of his bombs on Inkin's suspect chin, he could end up looking very good before a big audience on TV.
Sad thing is, if he wins the right to face Calzaghe, Froch's big fight could end up tucked away (in relative terms) on Setanta. Unless Joe vacates, and I can see him doing this because - someone tell me if I'm wrong - he's faced only 2 mandatories through 21 defenses, and both came against the same man, Veit.
I always thought Khan was living off his Olympic rep a bit too much. He's not very articulate IMO, and he still has that ama style despite his brilliant speed. His fights were always too calculated as well (i.e. St Clair - former "world champ" - travels very badly - always loses to bigger men - weak puncher down at 126 and 130-pounds, etc), to be much of an event.

Froch will be there or there about if he wins against inkin, Calzaghe will just not fight him.
A lot of people know Froch from his days coming up on the BBC as second fiddle to Audley Harrison, the lanky low-handed 'Cobra' who was quite funny in post-fight interviews. And remember, he told 5 million viewers that he was going to "smoke Calzaghe's boots" a few years back (at Khan-Kindelan II).
That's what I'm thinking STP. Frochie's distinctive looking and generally comes up with something outlandish and memorable in his interviews, so maybe he could finally catch on with the casual fight fans if he comes up trumps vs Inkin.
And I agree, the fight will be for the right to contest Calzaghe's titles not to face Calzaghe.
