Weight KOs Castillo again!

Former world champion Jose Luis Castillo has pulled out of his WBC junior welterweight eliminator with #1 rated Timothy Bradley on Saturday night's Maskaev-Peter undercard in Cancun. Castillo said stomach pains prevented him from losing the final three pounds required to make the 140lb limit. "I am very sorry, I feel depleted," stated Castillo. "I think it would be for the best. I don't want for anything in the world to hurt this sport....last night I had increasingly intense pains and my trainer and the doctor suggested I cancel the fight for my own safety." Castillo and his team returned this afternoon to Mexicali.

Witter Vs Bradley, anyone?

Castillo should jusrt move on up again or retire.

Crazy. Why sign for an elim to fight for the title, when you can't even make weight for the eliminator. If he had made it this time, he wouldn't have made it next time. WELTERweight anyone? WBC need to pull their socks up even sanctioning the fight after all the trouble of the past.

Its gutting for Witter because if he had got the fight with Castillo (obviously Castillo would have had to beat Bradley) then it would have got him a lot of money and the exposure that he really needed.

I read that he didn't get his 7 day weight check either (147lbs) but the WBC didn't force the issue.

When will these people learn? Surely now he must banned from fighting below WW

Well, I don't think a ban should be made this time - he has pulled out before he was required to weigh in... at least he was honourable to some degree this time.

However, I think he should retire - he is too small at 140 (as shown vs Hatton) - he'd get munched by the likes of Margarito. He shouldn't have a problem with the weight - obviously its down to desire and training.

Part of me thinks he should be banned for life. This is the second time he's had to cancel a fight, and the third time he hasn't made the contracted weight, the only reason why I'm partly sure instead of definate is that this time it isn't a main event.

Godamn! Why sign the contract for the fight in the first place if he's having trouble making weight. Surely, he mist know if he would have a hard time making weight?

I'm afraid that's the finish of Castillo now. There will be no more big fights for him. Who would want to take the risk of him not making weight in the future?

Castillo was a brilliant fighter, involved in some cracking bouts, but not making for Corrales twice, now this episode, will have tarnished Cadtillo's standing within boxing forever.

Whenever Castillo is talked about, the issue of not making weight will always come up.

I smell a legal battle from here on. Whoever was promoting the fight must be pissed off! Was it Bob Arum?

He must have been severely weakended for the Hatton fight... Hatton said he felt a big difference in strength from the off.

Castillo just does not have the edge any more.

He is only in it for the money.

Don King will no doubt have covered himself. Castillo has to move up but he is not going to get any opportunities.

Castillo is done - he has been before Hatton.

Ideally, Castillo would retire but they never (well for the most part) do; do they?

Quite possibly now it'll be Witter Bradley by default!

Castillo has done his rep no favours in the last while.

Castillo's been done since Corrales 1 imo, he was never the same after that

If Castillo really wanted to he'd have made 135 against Corrales and 140 against Bradley, he just doesn't have his heart in it and doesnt have the dedication for it anymore

WBC should have known better pushing a past it Mexican for a title shot at a weight he was going to have problems making. They are supposed to monitor the weight gradually as well. Arum should also known better, and so should Castillo. It's just plain stupidity all round. If Castillo doesn't know better by now, someone - whether it's the sanctioning body or his own promoter - should protect him from himself.

I think he's too big and too old to keep taking weight off. It's not like his metabilism's getting any faster. He said he "had to cut off an arm" for the Lazcano fight back in '04 (or was it late '03?).
