i'm not sure james is right about enzo and the risk he was taking in this fight. i believe waarren thought he saw an opportunity to beat haye due to weight probs and called it badly wrong. i loved what adam said after the fight about there being no shame in losing only in not taking risks and applying that to the politics of this fight and modern boxing in general.
totally right in my opinion.

Anyway, Enzo looked good against Braithwaite, and I think he'd beat Moremeck, who was poor against Haye.
Can we PLEASE get over this false belief that Braithwaite was some great win.

The guy is coming to end and had lost 2 of his last 3 fights.

His only win in THREE years had come against Gustavo Enriquez!!

Whatever the gameplan, they didnt employ it. Enzo traded punches with Haye who was looking for a quick finish and got it. Very dissapointed in big Enzo who I believed would cover up and dodge the Haye onslaught for a few rounds. Having a tear up with Haye was never going to work.

I can't see him standing much of a chance against Cunningham who would box rings round him, or Mormeck and Bell if they are in shape as they would KO him. Autobarn you can add Rudolf Kraj to your list, now WBC no 1 after beating Godfrey.

At best Macc gets his WBO belt back and clings on to it against the bum of the month club.
when did Kraj beat Godfrey??

Not sure I agree. I think the fight was inconclusive. Either could catch the other and Haye was hurt by a jab and cut. Let them fight again.

Haye has fought his last fight at cruiser and Enzo is unlikely to fight at HW. I agree either man could have caught the other and Haye had the success, so both fighters must move on now in different directions. I think we are very lucky Haye stayed at CW for one more fight, I didnt think he would.

No demand for Haye-Enzo 2. If Enzo had manage to drop Haye before getting stopped, yes there would be. But right now I'm afraid one fighter is shit hot while the other is back to the drawing board.

Kraj defeats Godfrey!

In an important WBC cruiserweight eliminator, Olympic silver medalist and #2 rated Rudolf Kraj (14-0, 10 KOs) earned the right to challenge for the WBC world title with a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten #1 rated Matt Godfrey (16-1, 9 KOs) on Saturday night at the KönigPALAST in Krefeld, Germany. It was a tactical fight with neither fighter establishing a clear advantage, however Kraj was more active and deservedly won 115-113, 116-113, 117-111.

Enzo can definitely come again, but, for me, it's not even a physical thing that held Maccarinelli back last night. Obviously Haye was leagues above him physically (better jab, better right hand, faster, stronger, more variety), but Enzo was destroyed mentally. It seemed to have been building all week, but had probably been festering away at Maccarinelli for months.

Enzo Calzaghe filled Maccarinelli full to the brim of false confidence. Why? Because Maccarinelli had zero confidence in his ability to win that fight.

I just remember there was a photo of Haye at the weigh-in and you said something like he was too ripped. I thought from that you believed Enzo would win......

Let's ask Enzo Maccarinelli if the fight was inconclusive. He knew he was beaten well before the first bell. You could see it in his eyes and his mannerisms leading up to, and during the fight.

Haye is levels above Maccarinelli and I think he proved it even in the short time they were inside the ring. He controlled the ring and had Enzo twitching every time he THREATENED to throw something.

Enzo could never have won that fight...aside from a one-punch Hail Mary.

It was heading towards a ridiculously one-sided beatdown before Haye decided to end proceedings.

Also, Enzo pulled back vs Braithwaite in his best performance. In that fight he did that to draw Braith in and draw him onto a let hook. So it seemed to be a natural thing for him to do, to pull back vs Haye. Haye obviously was controlling the ring, moving Enzo back, beating him to the jab. This is probably why Enzo made the mistake, of goig straight back in the corner.

What I find funny almost, is that it was Haye that pushed the pace of the fight in round two after he got concerned with his cut. Haye is not supposed to be able to do that vs a big fit lad like Macca.

I take my hat of to Enzo. He could have very easily dodged this fight but he was as game for it as Haye was. He came to fight and showed he has real heart. He has a bright future and i give him a great chance of picking up one of the main belts soon enough, just as long as Warren delivers him the oppertunity.

However, i did not like the look of Enzo's conditioning (or his haircut :o ). I'm sure he was physically very fit, but those muscles of his need worked IMO, i just cannot see how it would do him any harm.

You have to give Enzo Maccarinelli all the credit in the world - there was one point - I thought bloody hell he can take one hell of a punch - in the first round Haye hit Maccarinelli with a ram rod jab and it seemed he did not flinch.

However - I have to say from the ringwalk to the announcements to the fight itself - whilst Haye displayed top notch confidence - it seemed to me Enzo was no where near the same sort of mood.

A loss against Haye doesn't make Enzo a bad fighter overnight. Enzo is still a top5 Cruser now Hayes left and he needs to learn from the defeat. He stood in range and tried to beat Haye at his own game, which was never going to work for him. He would have probably lost anyway but this was a bad move against Haye. However other than Haye Enzo is probably the best at using speed and range at Cruser.

I thought Enzos chances of winning were either, using lateral movement and a tight guard and wait for Haye to tire or back Haye up throwing hell for leather and not giving him time to get his shots off.

Haye was getting ominously close all through the 2nd round because he was faster and willing to force the fight. This spelled curtains for Mac, before the 3 booming rights and the final flurry.
