i thought he looked good tonight and would with a few more fights under his belt pose most a problem.hope this guy gets a break becuase he is such a good boxer.

Williams lost to a good fighter in Margarito last summer, so for sure can come again. He needs to stay busy now. I can see him defending against Darren Rhodes next.

Martinez !!. Not Margarito !..

RW looked very good tonight and his shout out to Gary Logan re: dietary advice was telling !.
I believe RW struggleds to make weight for Martinez !..

Unlike some - he made no excuses at the time.

RW is a vwery god boxer and we want to see some big fights involving RW on the world scene !..

I missed the live action, I didn't see it advertised on Sky, I saw him today and he looked good. He looked focused and as good as he was prior to Martinez.

I was particularly impressed with Bami, his defence was alot sharper and he looks like he's learned from the Malinga setback. I'm not convinced about his chin, but he was sound defensively against a decent comeback opponent.

Barry Hearn must have been chuffed.

Just a guess. They're both under the same promotional wing of course.
I suppose they could always bring over a couple of South Africans for Williams, but Rhodes deserves a crack after his win over Steve Roberts.

Williams did look good, Powers was rough around the edges but he was very tough and positive too until that bodyshot took it all out of him.
I've been watching the Martinez fight tonight and it is evident even in the first round that Williams was not 100% or probably even 80%: no snap, none existant reflexes and he just wasn't throwing. Actually looked like an old shot fighter.
If he'd lost on a good night it would have been worse, as it is I think he can still make something good of the time he has left.
After one or two more tune ups he should aim for a return fight.

Nah, he just said the Moore/Williams fight wouldn't happen.

Bami appeared to me to have only one combination - lead left, straight right and through it time after time - anyone with a counter planned will be able to clean his clock if they can land it.

On that subject - Williams looked OK to me. I am not going to go overboard on him - it's too late anyway.

Question - Did anyone see Williams throw any straight punches? Apart from his Jab he seemed to just throw hook after hook and occasional uppercuts. If he'd had a straight punch he'd have finished it earlier.

It looked to me like Powers was able to avoid the straight punches much more easily.

I'm not convinced Williams would beat Martinez in a rematch although he surely couldn't do much worse than last time.

Barry Hearn's response to the Moore v Williams suggestion was hilarious.

I'd like to see Rhodes v Mellis in a kind of mini eliminator. Not saying either need to really earn a shot at Williams but it could be a cracking little match with a big fight there for the winner.

So you are saying that there was ONE straight punch & it snapped his head back, in what - 8 rounds?

Kind of proves my point really.

He never looks comfortable letting his punches go - even after he hurt him to the body.

Nice guy - but I am pretty sure that he will continually come up just short.

He is quite slow-handed for a Light-Middle.

Any thoughts on Williams being called out by Chris Henry? I don't know that much about Henry, his record isn't that good, but in his last fight he banged out a decision against Dewey Welliver, a young tough but limited American journeyman. Also in his past is a KO loss to Junior Witter and a UD loss to Canadian prospect Joachim Alcine.

Doesn't sound like this Henry is that dangerous a prospect then, KO loss to a Light Welter isn't too promising. I believe Williams needs one more warm up fight before stepping up the physical and psychological battle that will be a rematch with Martinez.

I think it would be a good fight for Williams, I can see him being very nasty and winning decisively.

If I was Hearn, I take the match - If Williams loses to Henry, then he's not up to the task.
