Jesse McGhee

Post by Robinson »

Was he one of the shortest of modern heavies ?

I just watched his fight versus Mercer, Ray's debut..and McGhee made Mercer look like a giant...ironically it is Mercer who often looks in his matches to be short himself.

Does anyone have any info...stories etc about this stubby heavyweight ?

thanks guys

I remember him, recorded his bout with Bruce Seldon too. There was another heavyweight I seen back then that might have been shorter, Dion Simpson. Fought from 81 to 85. I seen him live against Andy Csonka(Bro of the football player) in Az. When Dion entered the ring I thought of midget wrestling. Though Simpson's height is not listed with boxrec he was very short but pretty solid. Simpson ended up with a 19-2 record losing to Pierre Coetzer and Buster Douglas(the Douglas bout was part of the ESPN heavyweight tourney and Douglas lost to Jessie Ferguson in the next round)

Thanks for that. Would you say that McGee was shorter than Qawi when he decided to take u the HW divison ?

Makes you wonder how a Langford or Burns would look against one of the sports giants.
