NEWS FROM WINCOBANK SHEFFIELD
NEWS FROM WINCOBANK SHEFFIELD
Brendan has begun to hand over the reigns to his two sons, Dominic and John.
Brendan has announced he is dropping his Manager's licence, and passing responsibility for his fighters to John and Dominic.
He's 63 now, and conservatively we think he's had 520 or so boxers pass through his hands.
He's keeping his Trainers licence and will still work the corners as a second.
He deserves to slow down a little, and the next year or so I think, will show a steady departure from the front end battle field.
What an absolute star he is.
It's not just about the work with the well known fighters who have made it under his Management and Tutorage, it's the kids he's taken off the streets and put back on the straight and narrow.
He might hail from Southern Ireland, but as a Sheffield boxing fanatic,I claim him as our own !

Do you think he messed Hamed around?
To be honest, I used to be on Ingle's side in their rift but now I'm siding with Hamed!
Why?
Well, I THINK INGLE'S done great things in Sheffield but has he produced another champion of thge quality of Hamed? NO I don't think so!
Whats your take?

Ingle has produced from scratch several top notch fighters. I am not saying the man is a saint, and I am sure there is more to his falling out with Naseem than meets the eye, but he tuned Nassem from a gap-toothed young kid, and turned him into one of the best fighters
Hamed went downhill as soon as he stopped listening to Brendan, it was obvious in watching his fights, Herol Graham, Johnny Nelson, and the young James Hare were all Ingle proteges too.

Re: NEWS FROM WINCOBANK SHEFFIELD
He deserves to enjoy a long happy and healthy retirement, a truly great person who leaving aside the high profile guys he has trained has done so much for the ordinary kids he has worked with.Kieran wrote:Brendan has begun to hand over the reigns to his two sons, Dominic and John.

Yes, boxing is not only about producing the great champions (which Brendan has done) but it can also save peoples lives. Something which again Ingle has done. How many of his fighters would be in jail now if it weren't for boxing or Ingle.
Its quite sad that he's decided to back it in, I often have seen people age more when they retire, due to the lack of "something to do" in their lives. I was hoping that his sons would soon have more of an impact, I just wished Brendan cut it down more gradually than what he's doing.

Brendan took Herol "Bomber" Graham and made him unbeatable at European level for well over a decade. Brendan even outsmarted the legendary Mickey Duff when he took Bomber down to Wembley in 1989 to stop the previously unbeaten Rod Douglas.
Duff had really fancied Douglas to dethrone Bomber.
Brendan Ingle moulded the best British fighter of the 80's (Graham) and the best British fighter of the 90's (Naz).

Look,
I just think Hamed needed a change and it was probably healthy for him to part from Ingle.
His loss to MAB had nothing to do with leaving Ingle but rather his INFLATED EGO and LACK OF FOCUS!
Sure he owe's his career to Ingle but Hamed made him far more money than all his other boxer's put together ever came close to doing!
Also, form what I've read and heard from people with insider knowledge, Ingle was very much in the wrong!

Yes good luck to Brendan, I've got a lot of respect for that man.
He talks a load of blarney half the time, but he certainly knows how to train a fighter.
Naz owes it all to him - Brendan took a skinny kid off the streets and taught him how to be a man. I know there was a lot of personal stuff going on, but I think it's a tragedy the way Naz abandoned his mentor once he hit the big time.
If he didn't want to train with him anymore, fine - but he should have given Ingle a helluva lot more credit that he did.

Ever read "The Paddy and The Prince" nasty? Good book, and gives a great insight to the whole story.nasty wrote: Also, form what I've read and heard from people with insider knowledge, Ingle was very much in the wrong!
From what I read, Naz started insulting his trainer in front of people, talking down to him and taking the piss etc...
I've got film of a young Naz ( 9 or 10 years old ) telling everyone who'd listen that Brendan was the guy who transformed his life, and how he was going to make him rich beyond his wildest dreams......
Bottom line, I think, was when Naz and his family started to look at Brendan's % cut.....obviously getting larger by the HBO payday...
Augie Sanchez?
why after that fight which was a 4th round tko? Why not after the Kevin Kelley fight or the MAB fight or even cesar Soto?
Anyway.
Hamed is on his way back hopefully at Light welterweight for a Super Fight with Ricky Hatton at the new City ground in the summer of 2005!

One of the last of the old school, certainly in the UK.
Surely, he will still be involved in some capacity, i cant see him walking away, can you?
After the Sanchez fight we went straight round to the front for the press conference and then Naz left after about 5 mins or so as he wanted to see his missus. I couldn't swear to it but I don't even remember going back to his dressing room, we were more concerned to find out how Augie was as they had taken him off to the hospital. As for "sobbing uncontrollably" that is just too silly for words.bennie wrote:I know for a fact after the Augie Sanchez struggle, Naz was sobbing uncontrollably in his dressing room, saying: "I should never have left Brendan."
I got those "silly" words from a Sky-TV expert who was in the dressing room.JohnShep wrote:After the Sanchez fight we went straight round to the front for the press conference and then Naz left after about 5 mins or so as he wanted to see his missus.
