Unfortunately its the British mentality to knock people who are doing well for themselves. Gary is a top lad and one of my best mates.. As a mate I see/hear this all the time; people are snide and want to take pot shots but believe me they are the very same people who kiss ass/buy drinks and want to shake his hand... its embarassing sometimes...

The bottom line is they are jealous because they wish it could be them on telly knocking people out/getting recognised etc etc... its a natural human reaction and they are the people who show themselves up with their hate filled bulls*** as the sad empty losers that they really are...

The funny thing is I'm his mate and it winds me up more than it does him.. He couldn't give a f*** what people post/think/say and he actually takes the piss out of the haters because he's met so many he can see it in their eyes before they open their mouths to shake his hand or congratulate him....

Don't get me wrong he's the nicest guy in the world with genuine people and is always very grateful of support.

So to all of you wishing him luck and posting positives vibes THANKYOU FROM GARY and PLEASE KEEP IT UP.. I'm sure he'll do us all proud....

C'Mon Gary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I for one wish him the best of luck.

It's like a life's dream for any boxer worth his salt, to get to travel to the states and take on the middleweight champion of the world.

Back in the 50's this sort of thing happened regularly, it gets pilloried these days as champs don't have to fight every month to make a living like the did back then, but the principle remains the same.

Its true to say that he hasn't mixed in the company of Kelly Pavlik before but Gary's record does include: European Junior title as an amateur and stopping Kevin Kelly, who at the time (at light middleweight in 2002) was ranked 4th by WBA coming off a defeat by Reed for WBA title and had never been stopped.

Since then he hasn't really been given the fights if we are truly honest but as I said before "he can only fight who they stick in front of him"...

Pavlik is perfect for Gary and he has a great chance of banging him!!!

As I understand it Taylor had a rematch clause that didn't specify title or non title.. Kelly Pavlike chose to rematch but at 11st 12Ib as a catch weight instead of for the titles... There are a few people saying he's struggling for weight at Middle and may move up to Super Middle at some stage (he's only 25)...

He might struggle bringing his weight back down to 11st 6Ib for this.

Its got to be hard because I remember how much Gary struggled at 11st for light middle, he should never have been in that division he is just too big a bloke to do it healthily... the weight he had to lose was frightening..

Gary turned pro at 19 instead of going to the Commonwealth Games. At the start he trained in Liverpool and was bowling people over left right and centre. He then developed a chest condition which was misdiagnosed as asthma and he had his boxing license revoked by the british boxing board of control at 21. He saw various specialists and was out of the ring until he was 23-24 when a harley street specialist discovered he had been misdiagnosed and it was an allergy to dust and dust mites in common houses. His boxing license was then reinstated and he signed for Barry Hearn then allegedly.

He had the result against Kevin Kelly which was live on HBO and things were looking good but behind the scenes his weight was a massive problem which caught up with him in the tsarenko fight where he lost a ridiculous amount of weight and was (he would admit this) a little niaive about nutrition and weight loss.

Despite avening the defeat, in boxing circles the road back from a defeat is a long one and at one point in 2004/05 he simply wasn't offered a single fight in 12 months until the Monoghan fight (first one) then people slagged him off for not looking good.

People don't realise he was a stellar amatuer and junior and literally won everything including european junior gold in 93/94. The victory against Kevin Kelly was arguably the best and worst thing that could have happened because it side stepped the weight issue but the guy was ranked 4th by the WBA at the time so it proves he can mix it at this level if the right opponents are put infront of him.

I think he's going to shock a few people with how good he is..... he's a counter puncher and hits like a light heavyweight...

You should take your own advice boyo.

Your the one who responded to doubts about Lockett's chances with :

Mindless effing idiots posting on here who just want to be the one to say "he's got no chance" but they'd be the same effing idiots wanting to chat to him and shake his hand if they saw him out... cocks!

If thats what you think why do you feel like you want to piss on someone elses chips eh? does it make you feel good inside you effing knobend? How much boxing experience have you got?

Whats wrong mate don't you like to see people do well?... you are probably the kind of bloke who is jealous of his mates when they get payrises you sad twat!!
Hardly constructive

i can't believe lockett has got this chance tbh. :)

crazy world ain't it.

he's been fighting absolute nobodys and all of a sudden gets this chance.

a man that has never even fought the best europe has to offer.

terrible mismatch.

i just hope lockett doesn't get completely trashed.

I think you may have missed my point above fella.. I also posted something about 20 minutes ago which is very constructive and explanatory of Gary's career to date.

Please don't "boyo" me I find that slightly patronising, its like me adding "what what" or "pip pip its pimms o clock" to every post to an english person and besides the fact my dad's from East End of London :D

Anyway the point I was trying to make (perhaps not very constructively) is that some people on here seem to to take some perverse pleasure in saying Lockett's got no chance. For eg that Search guy above - did you see his post? that is whom it was directed at and certainly not anyone who simply questioned the match or Gary's ranking...

This is a public board and naturally everyones got an opinion but the mindless element who seem to thrive on bringing others down do get my goat if I'm honest...

What about Keving Kelly who at the time was ranked 4th by WBA and narrowly lost a WBA title fight in the fight before Gary.... ?????

I'm convinced that the way to beat Pavlik is to fight 3mins a round, every round.

If Taylor was capable of that, he'd had done him last time out.

It's no guarantee because Pavlik fights 3 mins per round himself. Miranda tried that tactic but was forced to yield.

Yeah Abbo you've hit the nail on the head FIGHT not box..

Pavlik ain't as talented a boxer as Taylor/Mayweather he's a DOG by which I mean he's got balls/a big punch and never gives up but he's beatable and if anyone can do it Gary CAN because he's exactly the same.

Garys got a great chin and great power IN BOTH HANDS and he'll do admirably.

Pricks like search (who is that brave no one knows his name or where he's from) clearly haven't got a clue about boxing or they would say more than "BUM" etc etc about him...

Like I said Gary was a stellar amateur and european jnr gold medallist and you don't get there being a bum, he also dropped Kevin Kelly ranked 4th by WBA at the time who wasn't shot as many people are suggesting because he wouldn't have 1. been ranked so highly or 2. have never been down in his career before Gary or 3. Very narrowly lost in his WBA title shot in the fight before Gary...

Now anyone who knows there boxing knows that is FACT not opinion...

The opinion that Kevin Kelly was robbed in that same WBA title shot is an opinion held by many but I couldn't comment as I've never seen the fight...
